Exercise for the Breast Cancer Survivor

It is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” so let’s focus on the benefits of exercise. Studies have shown that there is a reduction in mortality and recurrence for those who participate in regular exercise. The problem is that despite this, too many breast cancer patients don’t keep active. Sometimes it is for physical reasons, the toll of treatment on the body and feeling tired. Other times it is emotional, just not having the motivation to get moving. This is where supervised exercise programs can help, which many hospitals and medical centers offer. The problem is that once the program has ended, … Continue reading

What Impacts Your Motivation to Exercise?

It’s interesting how the weather seems to affect my motivation to exercise. For nearly two weeks, the state I live in (Wisconsin) has been experiencing unseasonably warmer temperatures. In fact, I believe we broke record high temps on at least two days. It didn’t even feel like spring, it felt more like summer as we hit the 80’s. It was invigorating and got me outside taking a walk nearly every evening. Then this past weekend the temperature started to drop. As of the writing of this blog, we are only at 37 degrees, which is still considered to be pretty … Continue reading

Don’t Let the Cold Weather Stop You

Although some people enjoy the outdoors even when it’s cold, others (such as me) don’t. I live in Wisconsin, so the winds can be biting and the temperatures can be downright intolerable. This is often when fitness can take a backseat. We let the colder months deter us from continuing a fit lifestyle. So we have to purpose and make a plan for what we can do during the next several months. If you own a treadmill, try dusting it off. Then move it to a place where you are more likely to use it. Don’t want to miss your … Continue reading

10 Reasons Why We Chose a Midwife

Here are our top ten reasons for choosing a midwife in no particular order: Reason Number One — More Control: Instead of being a passive participant with things happening to me, I was actively seeking to ensure the best possible outcome for both pregnancy and birth. The midwives supported … Continue reading

Good Reasons to Drink Plenty of Water

There are some very good reasons to drink plenty of water. Not only is it important to do while you are exercising but it should become a regular part of your daily intake. First of all, if you are exercising you usually sweat. When your body sweats it begins to lose fluid and since our bodies are mostly made up of water, you can become dehydrated. You will lose the effectiveness of your workout if you are dehydrated because your body loses energy. Of course dehydration can also become dangerous. Did Your Deodorant Stop Working?

The deodorant/antipersperant aisle at the store is full of options. Sporty, teen, extra strength, spray, invisible, transdimensional, does the dishes too, etc. I used Secret because that was what my mom used… and I stuck with it for years. One day, I noticed that it wasn’t working as well as it used to. The powder fresh scent wasn’t lasting as long, and I was starting to feel sweaty. Betrayed! By my favorite deodorant! Oh, the horror! Heartbroken, I switched to another brand — Suave, if you’re curious. I’ve more or less been switching between the two every few years now, … Continue reading
