Mother’s Day

In honor of Mother’s Day, I thought I’d take a moment to contemplate my experience of motherhood. My experience of motherhood began with my own mother. While I don’t remember the nine months I spent growing in my mother’s womb, nor do I recall the eighteen months my mother spent breastfeeding me; I do remember that my mom was always there for us. I remember blissful summers eating fresh strawberries and green beans from the garden that my mom spent countless hours cultivating. I remember long winters spent sledding or shoveling our long driveway and the hot cocoa and roaring … Continue reading

U is for Uniforms

Yes, I know, uniform is stretching it where fitness is concerned, but I have a fitness uniform that I wear and I think many people do. Your uniform doesn’t have to have a name tag or a specific color scheme, but it does need to put you in the right mindset for your fitness routine. In general my uniform consists of: Shorts – I prefer shorts to pants when I am walking or working out because I get very hot, very quickly. Pants can increase my body temperature and if I am sweating over much, they get soaked through and … Continue reading

Why a Jogging Stroller?

Do you have a jogging stroller? Too often, people see jogging strollers and assume that the owner is someone who is serious about their fitness. The truth is, the jogging stroller is extremely versatile. It’s also ideal for parents who want to get into shape. The first jogging stroller showed up on the market in the early 1980s and they have improved on that original design. Jogging strollers typically have 41 to 51 centimeter wheels and those wheels let you take the stroller over a variety of terrains. When a parent enjoys getting out to power walk or jog (or … Continue reading

Weeding Away the Pounds

It’s summer here, I know officially that summer hasn’t started yet, but it definitely feels like summer is here with soaring temperatures, hot sun and steamy air. We’ve been very fortunate this spring because we’ve had lots and lots of rain (compared to last year when we had almost no rain and our lake dropped to 16 feet below the normal water level). So what do hot sun, warm temperatures and lots of rain give you? If you answered weeds, then go to the front of the class! Weeds, Weeds, Weeds I spend nearly an hour every other day pulling … Continue reading

Mother’s Day: Gifts for Health and Well-being

Still looking for Mother’s Day gifts for that special mom in your life? Why not give the gift of health? I have noticed, as we get closer to Mother’s Day, many advertisements for health-related gifts for moms. For instance, as I was walking this morning there was an ad enticing listeners to give their mom (or special mom in their life) a gift membership to a health club. I’ve heard or seen ads for mammograms, exercise classes, spa treatments and health screenings. I think these types of gifts are great ideas. They are thoughtful and send the message that we … Continue reading

5 Great Fitness Gifts for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is coming and for those of you keeping track, it’s one week from this coming Sunday. I think we should honor our mothers all the time, after all – they raised us, they gave us our sense of morality, our joy and our comfort. They kissed away our pain, they cheered on our accomplishments and more. So what can you give to your wife, your mother, your mother-in-law, your sister, your teachers and more – all of who are our mothers or the mother of our children? I’m a Mom I always thought my mom and my grandmother … Continue reading
