Fitness tips are easy enough to write, you throw in a few clichés and a little bit of common sense and you have a good tip. But there is a reward for writing fitness tips and for reading them. It can help you emphasize what you know and many of us learn by repetition. So with that in mind, here are my 6 fitness tips for today, September the 6th.

  • Flu Season is upon us - don't train while you're sick with the flu. Your temperature rises when you are sick and viruses affect your muscles (note the body aches and weaknesses). Remember, your heart is a muscle too and you can over strain it with exercise when it is weakened and fending off the flu - so drink plenty of fluids, get rest and get well to train another day
  • Cool Down After a Workout - A cool down is very important because your blood vessels dilate to deliver blood to your muscles, if you don't cool down properly before jumping into a hot shower or the hot outdoors - you can actually make your heart work even hard as the blood vessels dilate further
  • Stretching requires definite techniques and there are reasons for these rules because a stretch is more effective if you don't bounce it or try to do it without warming their muscles up and remember if a stretch is painful, stop
  • Like Fitness Videos? Make sure the one you buy is one that matches your own fitness level - the worst thing to do is buy a fitness video that is too hard and you give up in frustration or too easy and gets you no where
  • Training Logs are worth keeping because they help you find the weaknesses in your own workout while at the same time you can track your successful progress and achievements, it can also show you where you can increase intensity of the workout
  • Get bored doing repetitious exercise such as cardio workouts on your treadmill or bike? Read a book, watch a program or listen to music or a book on tape - this can help open and entertain your mind while you get your body fit and healthy

What fitness challenges have you had to overcome to keep yourself going?
