Today in my neck of the woods (Wisconsin), I am feeling pretty grateful for unseasonably warmer weather. Yesterday we hit as high as the mid 50’s and today we are in the 40’s. It is quite a contrast from a year ago when we were digging ourselves out after receiving more than two feet of snow. Winter can be a difficult time to exercise. It becomes especially challenging when the clouds are grey, the temperatures are frigid or there is a ton of snow. Who wants to go out in that? Maybe it’s not even the weather. Maybe you are … Continue reading

A Review of “My Fitness Coach”

So for the past two weeks I have been thoroughly enjoying a new Wii fitness program, “My Fitness Coach.” After nearly a month of not using my Wii Fit Plus program due to health reasons, I was feeling a little unmotivated about starting up again. I think the boredom had finally hit and I was realizing that it wasn’t challenging enough. While I was physically active with Wii Fit, it wasn’t enough. I wasn’t sweating and to me, a good workout involves some sweat. So after several Facebook status updates from a friend who was using “My Fitness Coach,” I … Continue reading

Which Wii Fitness Game Should You Choose?

Since the weather has gotten a bit cooler, I am anticipating that my mornings walking and running outside are a but numbered. The goose bumps I get as I start out are a clear indication that although the fall may be perfect for exercising outdoor, the winter surely won’t. I remember when Wii Fit came out and how I really wanted to get this game, to help me do some indoor workouts. A friend of mine who borrows the game on occasion says that she loves it. It is a bit pricey when you factor in having to use a … Continue reading

VP Contender & P90X

The presidential election has just taken a new turn, with the announcement that Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney’s running mate. What in the world does this have to do with fitness? Stick with me here. You would think that our interest would be in what Paul Ryan stands for. What exactly are his political beliefs? Yet what we have learned is that people aren’t looking into his values and political views. They are looking to see him shirtless. In fact, Google searches for him accompanied by the word “shirtless” have gone up. You don’t know whether to … Continue reading

Is lower back pain keeping you sitting on the sideline of your own life? Like so many moms, I have been spending the last several years carting around infants, toddlers, and groceries, picking up stray toys and toting baskets of laundry. Chronic back pain has plagued me in my adult life. I have gone through phases in my life where I have made more time for exercise and health. … Continue reading

Spring Is in the Air – Get Ready!

Where I am living, spring is definitely in the air. However, I always have my guard up when it hits the 60’s in Wisconsin in the month of March. There is always that possibility of getting snow again. But for now, I am basking in the warm breezes and beautiful sunshine. With this warmer weather comes the hope of getting back outdoors for a daily walk. I am in a very driven mode these days. My plans are to not only do my usual half hour exercise program each morning with “My Fitness Coach” but to walk for half an … Continue reading

Meeting P.E. Requirements for the Homeschool Portfolio

In my last post, I talked about the absence, of physical education requirements for most homeschoolers. I also mentioned, that just because many states do not expressly require proof of physical fitness, it does not mean that you can neglect it. Depending on the college your child chooses, you may find the need to demonstrate that your child has fulfilled P.E. requirements. Here is a list of things you can do pack the homeschool portfolio with proof of Physical Education. Certificates and awards: Your child can prove that he or she has not only participated, but also excelled in Physical … Continue reading
