Car Accident With Baby

We got in our first car accident with our baby today. It was very minor, thankfully, but it left me feeling very shaken. Our little dear has been down with a cold for a few days, and we decided a little fresh air would be good for all of us. Since we were running low on groceries, we bundled up and headed to the store. After shopping and loading our bags into the car, I got into the back and began buckling our daughter into her car seat. My husband waited in the front for us to finish, keys in … Continue reading

Accidents Happen – RICE RICE Baby

It’s a fact that when you are execising regularly that you may experience an injury. I’ve strained my foot, my leg, my arm and even my back (although admittedly the back strain came from moving heavy wood furniture up stairs and not from a workout). But the point is, you can hurt yourself and you need to know how to cope with injuries and the like in order to recover and prevent further injury or strain. The treatment for the most common injuries you may sustain while working out is RICE. RICE refers to Rest, ice, compression and elevation. Contrary … Continue reading

Smile!

I read this tweet the other day and couldn’t stop laughing: “Had an argument with my 7yo today and she threatened to film me with the flip camera and put it on YouTube. And she totally would.” Thankfully, my 5-year-old is still figuring out how to manipulate her Fisher-Price digital camera, so any potential photographic evidence she plans to use against me is currently relegated to still images only. Be that as it may, her photo experiments have already been the subject of raised eyebrows, concerned stares, and whispers between teachers at her school, all thanks to her voyeuristic, stalker … Continue reading

Learning From Our Mistakes as Pet Owners

Accidents don’t make you a bad pet owner… as long as you learn from them. I was catching up on posts in one of my favorite pet communities and saw a scary story. A young child knocked a lamp off a bedside table, which scared the family dog into making a run for it. When the dog jumped from bed to floor, she landed on the shards of the lamp and ended up severing nerves and tendons in one of her back legs. After emergency surgery, it looks like the dog will be okay. Thank goodness! Do I think this … Continue reading

First Aid: Broken Bone

I’ve got lots of weird and funny broken bone stories — usually fingers and toes. I broke a toe in gym class playing soccer when I missed the ball and kicked a classmate instead. I broke a finger when a friend threw a brick at me. Nearly seven million Americans see an orthopedic specialist for a broken bone each year. I saw one for one of my broken fingers… but used the plain old emergency room or family doctor for the others. The average citizen can expect to suffer two broken bones over a lifetime. I guess that makes me … Continue reading

My Face Is Killing Me

Yes, you read that correctly – my face is killing me. I mentioned my migraine last week and the difficulties of coping with it and trying to get over it. What gets more interesting is that Saturday morning, I woke up in pain – my face hurt. The pain was with my jaw – opening my mouth, closing my mouth and don’t get me started on chewing. The pain came in pulses, when the pulses were on – I felt nearly blind with the pain and the relief afterwards was intense. I went to the see the doctor at one … Continue reading
