Meet Alicia Sacramone

Alicia is the daughter of Fred, an orthodontist, and Gail, a salon owner. She has one older brother, Jonathan. Alicia is a sophomore at Brown University and competed on the Brown gymnastics team last year. Alicia enjoys designing her own leotards and is interested in a career in fashion design.

Why Root for Her?

Alicia won silver on floor exercise at the 2007 FIG World Championships. In addition, her performance this year was crucial to the American women's gold medal-winning team all-around performance. She also was a member of the 2006 World Championships Team, which won the team silver medal, and she took home individual bronze medals on floor exercise and balance beam. At the 2005 World Championships, she was floor exercise world champion, and her vault bronze medal was the USA's second world vault medal ever and first since 1989. Earlier in 2005, she became the U.S. national champion on vault and floor exercise and was named USA Gymnastics' Sportswoman of the Year.

In 2004, Alicia qualified for the World Cup Final as a wild card after placing first on vault at the Pacific Alliance and second at the World Cup in Ghent. She went on to win the vault gold medal at the World Cup Final ahead of the reigning Olympic gold and bronze medalists, Monica Rosu and Anna Pavlova, respectively.

The U.S. Gymnastics Team trials take place in June 19 to June 22 in Philadelphia, PA.
