Woman Loses Disability Benefits Due to Belly Dancing

One should always be careful about the kind of information that you choose to put online. This seems to be especially true if you happen to be getting disability insurance benefits. People who are going through a divorce, or who have gotten a settlement from a divorce, should also be cautious about how much they say online. A woman lost her disability insurance benefits after blogging about her belly dancing activities. The federal government has a program that provides financial assistance to people who have become disabled to the point where they can no longer work. A person either gets … Continue reading

Belly Dancing

Last spring, I took this great class at the Lifetime Fitness club – it was an introduction to Belly Dancing. At the time that I signed up for it, it was relatively inexpensive about $30 or $40 for an 8 week course in Belly Dancing. We would meet for one hour per week and I admit to some trepidation that first night when I showed up. After all, as much as I love dancing – we’re talking about belly dancing and this is a beautiful form of dance that can be as simple and as complicated as you might imagine. … Continue reading

What About Me?

I just need five minutes to myself! How many times have you thought or actually said those words? Just five minutes and I’ll feel like a human being again and can deal with all of this. As a single mother there isn’t any downtime, unless you make it. I know many single mothers who wait to read, or sew or watch TV until after the kids are in bed. Then once the kids are in bed and they’ve picked up the family room, washed the dishes and threw in a load of laundry, it’s time for bed and they never … Continue reading

Dream Cruise for Families

The cruise industry is hyped about the maiden voyage of Disney’s newest vessel. The massive ship can hold 4,000 passengers. It features 14 decks and more than 1,200 staterooms. The Disney Dream sails from Port Canaveral, Florida, to Nassau and Castaway Cay in the Bahamas on cruises of three to five nights. Currently, Disney’s website is showing cruise-only fares starting at $1,150 per person for a three-night cruise in an inside stateroom in March, and from $1,718 for a four-night cruise in April. Shore excursions are not included in the base price. However, they are what caught my eye as … Continue reading

Motivate Yourself to Get Healthy with Fun!

A friend of mine got a Wii Fit as an anniversary present… and her excitement and enthusiasm was absolutely contagious! (Anybody have a Wii Fit they want to let me try?) I’ll be honest — I don’t usually feel excited and enthusiastic about exercising. I know it’s good for me. I know it helps my body stay healthy and flexible and strong. But exercise isn’t something I think of as fun. When healthy choices are chores, you’re less likely to stick with them (whether we’re talking about a diet or an exercise plan). But if you can make your lifestyle … Continue reading

Janet Jackson’s New Project

Janet Jackson is writing a new book. According to People Magazine, she is going to write about her weight problems and weight loss over the years. Having been a fan of Miss Janet’s for many years, I remember her great figure when Rhythm Nation was released. I also remember her subsequent weight gain. The videos for her next album showed a newly svelte Janet complete with ripped abs and belly baring fashions. Over the years, she has played the yo-yo with weight gain and weight loss. When she loses weight she looks fantastic but she has a tendency to really … Continue reading

Celebrity Baby Talk

Babies, babies, babies. They are the talk of Tinseltown. From Jennifer Lopez’s rumored pregnancy with twins (announce you’re pregnant already) to Nicole Richie’s burgeoning baby bump to Halle Berry’s upcoming appearance on Oprah’s show to spill the beans on her new baby belly. And, then there’s Brooke Shields. The mom of two—-daughters, Rowan, 4, and Grier, 1—-says she is ready for baby No.3. “I would love it,” Shields recently told reporters at a publicity event. “I might have to bind and gag my husband [Chris Henchy] because I think he’s happy with the girls he has in his life, but … Continue reading

What’s the Right Question?

You know, as I write my fitness blogs I often wonder what’s the right question to ask? What’s the question that will engage –you- the reader and get you to respond to me? What do you want to know? How do you want to know it? The art of blogging is all about the chunks of information that are distributed. Some blogs do it in 100 words or less (I don’t know if I could answer anything in just a 100 words, but I could try) and some are huge novels. I don’t know that I could write a novel … Continue reading
