When a Chronic Condition Interrupts Your Fitness Routine

It is so frustrating to have a good fitness routine going, only to see it crumble because of sickness. I have been battling a severe flair-up of costochondritis for about two weeks now. The inflammation and pain have prevented me from doing any form of exercise, let alone light housework, without exacerbating the problem. I have also had to come to the realization that I likely suffer from a chronic form of it, so this won’t be the last time my life is interrupted. I guess it helps me to somewhat understand what others go through who have conditions like … Continue reading

Four Diseases Your Doctor May Miss

Four diseases that attack women in their twenties and thirties are often very hard to diagnose. There are no diagnostic tests for chronic fatigue syndrome, and doctors aren’t sure what causes it. … Continue reading

Osteopathy vs. Naturopathy

There is more than one type of doctor out in the world. For the first two years of medical training, osteopaths, naturopaths, and medical doctors all study the same things — more or less. After that, the three schools diverge. Doctors of osteopathy (DOs) continue to get similar training to medical doctors (MDs). OMT moves muscles and joints using gentle stretching, pressure, and resistance to help restore balance to the musculoskeletal system. If the musculoskeletal system is in balance, related body systems can see improved function. Most … Continue reading

Momma’s on a Diet: On the Starting Blocks

Or should that be the do-over blocks I wonder? It’s not exactly the first time I’ve tried to lose this unsightly weight, or the second, or third. You get the picture? This time however there’s a very clear bigger picture to look at. Losing weight to become healthier would be great. Shifting pounds to have more energy would actually be awesome. Shrinking to be able wear smaller sized clothes would be kinder on my finances. But my main reason for losing weight is to get my medical team to look past the excess fat and start treating me like they … Continue reading

Why am I so tired?

I found out I was pregnant and I was a little relieved, after all I’d been exhausted all the time. In fact, part of the reason I found out I was pregnant was because I went to the doctor to find out if I was sick. I’d been so tired and that was so unusual for me. It hit me over night, it seemed. One day I was fine and then over the course of a weekend, I felt run down and almost constantly craving a nap. The Amazing Race Your body is really quite wonderful. During what is called … Continue reading
