Day 11: Falling off the Horse

You know, I knew it was a mistake somewhere in the back of my head when I just let myself off the hook for that slip on Day 7. So that one cigarette wasn't satisfying, I slipped again on the 8th and on the 9th day, I smoked 5 cigarettes during the day. Yesterday, which was day 10, I sat down to re-evaluate my plan for quitting and realized that because I kept saying they didn't matter, I was still smoking them without paying attention to them.

New Beginnings

So I guess today is a day of second verse, same as the first. If the cigarettes aren't worth it and don't do anything for me, what am I doing smoking them? Because they are seductive and the habit is long ingrained in me. I need something else to do with my hands and my mouth. To that end, we're employing a new strategy this weekend.

I'm going to the store to stock up on some raw baby carrots and a box of sugar free tootsie pops in order to have something to munch on or suck on that doesn't bother me with regard to cigarettes. So, I'm not going to look back and chastise myself. I'm not going to give myself a good flogging for being week.

I slipped and I fell off the horse this week and it's time to get back on it. Day 12 will make my new beginning - only this time it will be easier. I'm not going from a pack or more a day to none, I'm going from 3 or 4 to none. I've already started down this road and I know there are potholes.

I Refuse to Give Up

I refuse to give up on myself or on the goal of stopping smoking. I screwed up and I made my mistakes, but in this situation - I'm definitely a quitter. I'm going to be smoke free and smoke less by Christmas. Have you ever tried to ditch a bad habit?

Good luck Heather! I have never smoked, so I cannot imagine how hard this is but I've had friends and family who have quit and I know you can do it!

Keep going Heather! You can do it!
