Chicago’s Art Scene

In the past year or so I have written extensively about Chicago being an ideal family-friendly travel destination. From restaurants to monuments, kids’ activities to seasonal festivities, it’s hard to find a place that offers parents so many kid-friendly options than the Windy City. That being said, as I looked through my article archives I noticed that I have neglected to write about some of the city’s incredible cultural attractions. So without further adieu, here are some of my family’s favorite places to have fun and learn a few lessons in the process. Art Institute of Chicago You can’t miss … Continue reading

Dad’s Losing It: It Was Good While It Lasted

On Sunday, my wife and I decided to drive up to New York City to spend the day in Lower Manhattan, walking around Battery Park and cruising around New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty and the surrounding waterways. It was a beautiful day in the Big Apple, a sunny and breezy 73 degrees – simply amazing weather for a July day in the Northeast. I couldn’t pass up the chance to be out on the water with my family enjoying such perfect conditions, so we made the drive (in record time – one hour and forty five minutes from … Continue reading

Author Interview – Lynne Jonell (part two) The Publishing Process

We are joined today by national children’s book author, Lynne Jonell. If you missed part one, click here. Lynne, when we left off yesterday, you were telling us how you got the idea for your first picture book. When did you decide it was ready to send to a publisher? At the time, I was taking a class from children’s author Jane Resh Thomas. Instead of reading the next chapter in my middle grade novel, I read Mommy Go Away!. And Jane told me– “Lynne, you have a gift. You think like a toddler.” I wasn’t quite sure if this … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review November 18-24

Good morning and Happy Saturday – what a crazy week this has been. For me, it involved taking some much needed down time and time off from the writing. Though you saw blogs from me here, most of these were written ahead of time when I could and others were written on the fly. My daughter and I planned to do a lot together this week, but she came down with a nasty cold at the beginning of the week so we spent a lot of our week snuggled up together and watching movies as we nursed her through her … Continue reading

O.J. Simpson Doesn’t Write a Book

I can see O.J. now, sitting at home, his head in his hands. “Why?” he asks, a look of pain on his face. “Why did Tristi Pinkston have to write such a scathing blog about my book? Now it’s been cancelled!” Okay, I’m willing to admit that my blog had nothing to do with it. I’d sure like to take credit for the cancellation, though. I got curious about it and found some details in my local newspaper, the Daily Herald. The following facts come from the headline story of their Tuesday, November 21st edition. Apparently media mogul Rupert Murdoch … Continue reading

Day 13: Monday, Monday – I Got Nothing

Stopping smoking is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I slipped up and despite being at only 5 cigarettes a day, I’m still not—not smoking. So here we go again, tomorrow morning we start the clock back at zero. I will stop making excuses for myself because when it comes to lighting a cigarette – there is no such thing as a good excuse. Stress? Stress is a great excuse to smoke if I have no other ways of coping with stress, but I do have other ways to cope with stress. I have exercise. I have my … Continue reading

Author Interview — Robison Wells

Today we are joined by author Robison Wells, a rising star on the LDS suspense horizon. Rob, thanks for taking the time to grant us this exclusive interview. Your new release, “The Counterfeit,” is the sequel to “ Wake Me When It’s Over,” which I recently reviewed. Do you have to read “ Wake Me When It’s Over” in order to enjoy “The Counterfeit?” Technically you don’t. I’ve gone to great lengths to make it as stand-alone as possible, recapping the essentials of what happened in “Wake Me When It’s Over.” However, I think readers would enjoy “The Counterfeit” much … Continue reading
