Dealing with Your Triggers

In my last blog I talked about knowing your triggers…the things that cause you to slip from making healthy food choices or staying consistent with exercise. I mentioned that sadness is my trigger for eating the wrong things and stress for failing to exercise. Hopefully you have taken the time to really consider what it is that triggers your lack of consistency. It can be the biggest detriment to living a healthy, fit lifestyle. Recognizing those triggers is just the first step. You now have to do something with that knowledge. You should come up with some helpful ways to … Continue reading

Tips for Dealing With Survival Mode

Survival mode. When you hear this term used in reference to personal finance, it means that a person of family is on the edge of financial disaster. When a person or family is operating in financial survival mode, stress levels escalate. Their thoughts become predominated with how they are going to get the food, gas, rent and other necessities that they need when they need them or how they will do without until they can get them. Survival mode is no fun for anyone. If parents are stressed out about money, their children feel the effects because they are less … Continue reading

Emotional Eating and the Guilt Trip

In my last blog I talked about emotional eating. It is when we eat to feed our emotions, rather than to feed our hunger. It is something I have battled with all my life. I have overcome many areas but there is still work to be done. One of the things that can plague us, however, is a guilt trip. The guilt trip that is laid on us is not only related to our eating but to our exercise routine as well. We feel guilty because we overate. We feel guilty because we don’t exercise everyday or we don’t exercise … Continue reading

Dealing with Emotional Eating

Did you know that fitness can go deep into your emotions? Many people who struggle with their weight and eating right have some deep-seated emotional issues to deal with. I have to say that this has been my story for many years. When I do overeat, I know why. I also know why I sometimes lose the drive to exercise. Yet gaining complete victory over those reasons has yet to happen. You have likely heard the phrase, “Emotional Eating.” This occurs when a person eats, not because they are actually hungry, but because they want to feed a feeling. For … Continue reading

Book Review: Eating, Sleeping and Getting Up Part I

Eating, Sleeping and Getting Up is psychologist Carolyn Crowder’s answer to how parents can stop the three most frustrating, sometimes daily battles, we have with our children. She starts off by answering the age-old question, “Why do children misbehave?” According to Crowder, children misbehave because they have “become discouraged about finding a positive place of significance within the family. Each child needs to feel he or she is an important and useful member of the family. Because this desire for significance is so important, children work to achieve his goal through either negative or positive means.” The first duty of … Continue reading

Unhealthy Behaviors and Emotions

Does psychology play a role in the ability to lose weight?  For some people, the battle to shed extra pounds requires more than a good diet and exercise plan.  There could be something much deeper going on. In fact, some experts believe that in the majority of cases where people struggle with their weight, there are unhealthy behaviors and emotions involved.  If that’s true, then the best plan in the world won’t be able to conquer the problem. So it comes down to the heart of the issue.  It may go beyond the lack of willpower to stop eating when … Continue reading

Know Your Triggers

Consistency is key to a fit lifestyle. Yet it can be very difficult to implement and stick with. I think one of the ways we can win the war on this is by recognizing the triggers in our life. What are the things that prevent us from remaining consistent? I was recently thinking about this as it can be a huge problem for me. I can be doing well for a time with my eating and then suddenly I am back to making unhealthy choices. I am in my groove with exercising at least five days a week and then … Continue reading

Infidelity in the Media

I was watching TV with my husband the other night and I was so upset over all the mentions of infidelity in the matter of only a few minutes. We were watching The Office and if you watch this show, you know that Jim is going on the business trip to Florida with everyone and so is the intern. Of course, you see her on the phone with someone saying that his relationship with Pam isn’t going well, even though they just had a new baby, and that she believes they will hook up on the trip. Then there is … Continue reading

Should You Stay or Should You Go When He Cheats

If you just found out your husband is cheating you may wonder what in the world you are going to do now. He might tell you that he doesn’t want to lose you and that he wishes he had never done it, but how do you know for sure? You don’t want to be one of those women who stays with their husband while he continues to cheat but at the same time, what if he really does mean it and won’t ever cheat on you again? You don’t want to walk away from a marriage that you’ve been faithful … Continue reading

When a Chronic Condition Interrupts Your Fitness Routine

It is so frustrating to have a good fitness routine going, only to see it crumble because of sickness. I have been battling a severe flair-up of costochondritis for about two weeks now. The inflammation and pain have prevented me from doing any form of exercise, let alone light housework, without exacerbating the problem. I have also had to come to the realization that I likely suffer from a chronic form of it, so this won’t be the last time my life is interrupted. I guess it helps me to somewhat understand what others go through who have conditions like … Continue reading
