Dear Heather … Hiring a Personal Trainer for Your Child

After a brief hiatus, our weekly Dear Heather … feature is returning to the fitness blog here at Families.com So if you have fitness questions, concerns or just want to know something, feel free to send it my way and I will do my best to get your questions answered. Dear Heather, I am very worried about my daughter. She’s 9 years old and she’s already much taller than most of the kids in her class or her age. But over the summer she started putting on weight and I know she is getting teased at school. I’m concerned about … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Back Pain & Walking

Dear Heather, I’ve been walking as much as 30 minutes a day since just after Christmas. I’ve been pretty proud of the fact that I’ve kept it up at a decent pace in order to get in shape and losing weight. I’ve lost a few pounds, but I’ve already noticed that I feel stronger and I’ve trimmed two inches off my waist. But over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been noticing tightness in my lower back and it seems to get worse when I am walking and it leaves me sore most of the day. I stretch out before … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Why am I Miserable?

We have a different kind of Dear Heather question today, one that tugged at my heart and I actually had to think on long and hard before I answered it. For reference, I also spoke to my general physician to get some medical feedback on this type of problem and as I am far from a physician or a registered expert, I recommend that if you feel you need expert advice, that you talk to your personal physician as well. Misery Misses Company Dear Heather, I can’t believe I am writing to you on this. I would prefer not to … Continue reading

My wife is always talking about getting back into shape, but she’s always getting distracted or delayed. We have three kids and I know that it’s hard on her, I try to be supportive, but I am not good at it. … Continue reading

I’ve been doing some investigating, looking for something different, but altogether loving and in its own way, something sensuous. No, not lingerie – that’s a sweet gift, but that’s more for you than it is for her and I think we all know this. So with this in mind, what would I recommend for a sweet fitness gift this Valentine’s Day? Have You Heard of Doce Vida? The Best Fitness Article of December

I added this particular feature a couple of months ago and I have to say, I enjoy reviewing the various articles that I think are among the best of the month and then submitting them to an independent group to give me their opinions. Sometimes, that group includes my fellow writers here at the Families.com, sometimes it includes a few independent readers and more. This month, the articles submitted made for a tough selection, but the top fitness article of December was another new series introduced here at the Fitness Blog. Dear Heather … We Love to Read the Questions … Continue reading
