Spouses Behaving Badly

What would you do if your spouse talked and laughed about you behind your back? Or didn’t stick up for you when someone made an unkind remark about them? Or ran to save only him or herself without consideration for your safety when danger loomed? Sadly, my marriage has encountered all of these situations. Behind My Back In our early years, back when we were still dating and not even living together, Wayne had some friends who could be rather lewd and obnoxious. One day when we weren’t getting along very well (which happened more than I care to admit … Continue reading

Dehydration = Bad

Every so often, I bring up hydration and dehydration here in the fitness blog. It’s important to talk about it, to keep it forefront in your mind and to know what to do or not do with regards to hydration. Summer time is a particularly important time to focus on this issue because we spend so much time outside and in the heat and doing things that will dehydrate us if we’re not careful. For example, my daughter would stay in the pool all day if I let her, but I also make sure we have plenty of water with … Continue reading

Ask a Baby Blogger: Lactose Intolerance, Reflux and Breastfeeding

Question: I was wondering about this. my neighbor said she couldn’t BF because he was lactose intolerant, which lead to horrible reflux. would that much be possible? This comment was left on my other post about breastfeeding and whether or not a baby can truly be allergic to breast milk. I am sad to say that more often than not, I hear of bad advice and misunderstanding surrounding breastfeeding problems than sound, well researched advice. It is possible that a baby can be lactose intolerant and therefore unable to breastfeed but highly improbable. True (Primary) Lactose Intolerance What is referred … Continue reading

Avoiding Heat Stroke and Dehydration while Vacationing

Sometimes, people want a trip that requires a lot of physical exertion, or perhaps they want to travel some place warm. While this is great, it increases the risk of heat stroke and/or dehydration. Therefore, when planning your next vacation to some hot spot, take time to learn how to keep you and your family healthy. Many family vacations include time around the swimming pool or beach. Obviously, spending time in the hot sun for long hours can create serious dangers. While heat exhaustion is bad enough, remember the heat stroke and even dehydration can kill. The most important thing … Continue reading

Prevent Dehydration While Working Out

Maintaining your fitness in summertime includes preventing dehydration and the problems associated with it. We discuss water in the weight loss blog today and whether you can drink too much. The focus of this particular blog is keeping your hydration healthy when you are working, playing and otherwise enjoying the summer time fun this year. Drink water every 20 minutes or so when you are engaged in a strenuous physical activity. Do not take salt … Continue reading

The Flu and Pneumonia

When I was growing up, my mother repeatedly warned me about getting pneumonia. “Don’t got outside without a coat, or you’ll get pneumonia,” or “Stay in bed with that cough or you’ll get pneumonia.” While we now know that going outside without a coat won’t make you catch pneumonia (although it can affect some people’s immune systems), she was sort of correct on one point. If you have the flu, you can develop pneumonia. I want to point out that pneumonia is not a bad case of the flu. The flu is a viral infection, separate from pneumonia. Pneumonia is … Continue reading
