Setting Fitness Goals with a Pedometer

There are many different ways you can set fitness goals for the New Year.  One is by using a pedometer. What I love about these is you can pick them up for as little as $10.  But you can certainly spend much more on a nicer model. One type of goal you might want to set is taking 10,000 steps a day.  If that sounds like too much, you can reduce the amount. Some people like to figure out the average number of steps they take and then set goals from that.  The best way to do this is calculate … Continue reading

Online Streaming of Fitness Classes

Today in my neck of the woods (Wisconsin), I am feeling pretty grateful for unseasonably warmer weather. Yesterday we hit as high as the mid 50’s and today we are in the 40’s. It is quite a contrast from a year ago when we were digging ourselves out after receiving more than two feet of snow. Winter can be a difficult time to exercise. It becomes especially challenging when the clouds are grey, the temperatures are frigid or there is a ton of snow. Who wants to go out in that? Maybe it’s not even the weather. Maybe you are … Continue reading

Review of “NewYu Fitness Monitor”

I was recently sent a “NewYu Fitness Monitor,” valued at $99, to review. To be honest, it has been difficult to get full use of this monitor because of some health issues. But I have used it enough to understand it’s good and bad. First, let me explain how it works. It looks much like a pedometer and although it works like one, it goes a little further. Pedometers track the number of steps you take. This monitor can track all physical activity, so if you are doing vigorous housework or biking, this gets included into your daily activity level. … Continue reading

IBX Healthy Steps Pedometer Smart Phone App

Do you have a pedometer? This is one electronic device that I recommend everyone have. You can easily keep track of how many steps you take in a day. And that is very beneficial to your health. The recommended number of steps that we should be taking each day is 10,000. When you have a device that measures this, it motivates you to set goals. And you have a greater likelihood of walking more when you have a pedometer. Taking 10,000 steps a day can increase your energy, promote weight loss and just make you feel better all around. And … Continue reading

Apple Applies for Patent on Fitness Center App

If you have an iPhone or another similar device, you have a tool where a number of features and functions are easily accessible. I have a Droid and since getting it in December, I have been amazed at the things I can do with it. Making a phone call is nothing compared to my ability to Facebook, listen to music, surf the web or take videos. The app store is one of my favorite features. I have downloaded some really cool apps, everything from being able to scan bar codes so I can compare prices at different stores, to being … Continue reading

Best Gifts for Fitness Enthusiasts

So the holiday shopping days are winding down. You may be wondering what some of the best gifts for fitness enthusiasts are. One of the things I have read in a number of articles recently is that older people really enjoy Wii Fit. I don’t consider myself to be in the “older” crowd but I concur, Wii Fit is a great way to get your bum off the couch and become active in fun but beneficial types of exercise. Wii Fit offers a number of interactive fitness games, anything from sports to yoga. But speaking of technology, apparently the iPad … Continue reading

Kim Kardashian Endorsing Skechers Shape-Up Shoes

I have always been apprehensive about Skechers Shape-Up shoes and would really love to hear from those who have actually used them. Do they work? Do they really help you get toned? Well apparently Kim Kardashian thinks so as she has just signed onto a seven figure deal with the shoe company. Set to begin in 2011, it is called the “Shaping Up with the Kardashians’ Challenge” and will include not only Kim Kardashian but her mom as well. It is apparently a competition-type challenge where Kim and her mom will workout using the Skechers Shape-Up athletic shoes. So be … Continue reading

Do Fitness Apps Work?

Technology is amazing. I am always surprised at the innovative ways technology changes our world. Perhaps I am alone in this but I only recently discovered that there are Fitness Apps available for your iPod or iPhone. So now I am left to wonder if fitness apps really work. My husband and I are eagerly waiting for December, when we can upgrade our phones. We have been checking out the Droids and all the features they offer. I was so happy when I recently discovered that fitness apps exist. Apparently there is an app for everything. I tend to get … Continue reading

Use Smartphone to Lose Weight

If you’re anything like me, your smartphone has become a third arm.  Of course, I feel like I can justify this because I have a son in the military.  But the truth is that it would be attached to my side anyway. So why not make good use of it?  It already allows me access to my email, Facebook, the weather and so much more.  I might as well see if it can help me lose weight. A new study finds that a standard weight loss program can be more effective when you incorporate your smart phone.  With so many … Continue reading

Overcoming Struggles with Action

What is your biggest fitness struggle? I would guess we all have them. For some it is feeling like you will never achieve your desired weight or pants size. For others it is the inability to stick with a program. And then there are those (myself included) who struggle with consistency. Here is the problem with the struggles—besides the fact that it is a struggle—we tend to focus more on those than what we are doing right. We look at the glass as half empty, instead of half full. So what is the key to overcoming your fitness struggles? It … Continue reading
