Ancestry.com is Aware of the Site Outages

Genealogists who have had problems trying to log into Ancestry.com recently need not worry. It wasn’t caused by your computer, and it wasn’t due to hacking (probably). The popular genealogy website is aware of the site outages, and will let you know when things are back online. It doesn’t take much to ruin a genealogists evening sometimes. Those of you who have paid for a membership at Ancestry.com probably expect that the website will be available to you whenever you want to use it. Unfortunately, every website needs to go down for maintenance eventually. Once in a while, you run … Continue reading

Gluten-Free Resources : Blogs

It is not unusual for people who have to eat gluten-free to feel very alone in this world. Very few restaurants serve food in a way that is safe for us to eat. You might not know anyone else who has to avoid gluten. In reality, you are not alone! There are some excellent gluten-free blogs to explore. There are days when I feel as though there is nothing in this world that is safe for me to eat. It is easy to feel quite alone as you look over a menu at a new restaurant, only to discover that … Continue reading

Why Dont They Get To Know Our Kids?

I am having a real hard time deciding what the right thing to do when it comes to dealing with my in-laws. I have read books, searched the internet looking for help. We have tried everything at least I think we did. Today I am sitting here thinking about the relationship with my in-laws and our kids. Is life today so busy that no one has time to get to know our kids? Have times changed that much that everyone is so busy that they don’t have time for family? While I was growing up we were always doing things … Continue reading

The Desensitization of Children

My son came home with tragic news yesterday. A 7th grade teacher at his middle school didn’t report in and when relatives were sent to his house, he was discovered on the floor dead. So far we don’t know the cause of his death. He was only in his 40’s but if I were to guess I would bet it was a heart attack. I don’t know the teacher and my son is only in 6th grade so he didn’t know him either. But it really shook me up. First, the fact that the man was only in his 40’s … Continue reading

Are There Bullies in Homeschool?

Many parents choose to homeschool after their child has a particularly bad experience with bullies. It certainly does help remove the child from the abusive atmosphere and brings them into an environment where they are supported. But homeschool isn’t automatically bully-free. What if one of your children is a bully, and makes life hard for your other children? If your child has been a victim of bullying, he may choose to reenact things he saw take place at school, or things that happened to him, as part of his way of healing from the trauma. He’s safe now, but he … Continue reading

She’s Just Not That Into Me

She loves me She loves me not She really loves me She really wishes I would move to another country, so she wouldn’t have to endure my constant nagging about picking up her toys… or they all go to charity. OH.YES.THEY.WILL. She is my five going on 15-year-old daughter. My precious piece of sunshine, who as a baby would squish her marshmallow cheek against my chest, as we swayed to the angelic sounds of Libera singing a haunting rendition of “Sanctus.” (I challenge you to listen to their version without tearing up.) Now she prefers the not so heavenly strains … Continue reading

When There is Not Enough Time to Be Frugal

Who has time to cut coupons, scour the deals, wash out bags and walk to the store? Is it really worth it to spend extra time making meals from scratch when you can better spend that time earning money? It is sometimes hard to justify all of the time that can go into the job of saving money. I say it really depends on a number of factors. But there are three thoughts that I have on this. The first is that you have to calculate in a general way how much the particular frugal practice will save or earn … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: August 2008

Isn’t it crazy the way babies grow so quickly? It seems that you just get used to one stage and boom they are already into another. Tonight, were busy getting the household all set for my eldest child’s first day of second grade. My two younger ones are excited and want to start school, too. It will be a busy month. Don’t worry about the missing last week of blogs. I’ve gotten quite a few questions about where I have been. The Baby Blog tends to go on hiatus the last week of the month. That may change in the … Continue reading
