Give Yourself the Gift of Love This Valentine’s Day

Most of us associate Valentine’s Day with the receiving or giving of gifts to others.  How about making this year one about giving the greatest gift of all?  I’m talking about a gift that begins with you…loving yourself enough to make some important lifestyle changes. Now that the New Year isn’t feeling so new anymore, many of us start to lose grip on the goals and resolutions we set.  The energy and enthusiasm we felt in the beginning of the year to exercise more and eat less has started to wane. In fact, some people might even be suffering from … Continue reading

Splurging

Although I recently shared “5 Tips for a Fitter Thanksgiving,” I don’t want to give anyone the impression that you absolutely can’t or shouldn’t splurge. In fact, I might not follow my own tips. I think it comes down to the reality that splurging doesn’t necessarily cancel out all of the work you have done up until Thanksgiving. Your exercise and healthy eating doesn’t go out the window. You won’t suddenly put on 10 pounds because you enjoyed one day of good food. At the same time, I failed to mention in my last blog that not everything you prepare … Continue reading

5 Tips for a Fitter Thanksgiving

Hosting the Thanksgiving meal this week, I have a lot to do. And I will be honest…exercising is not one of the first things on my mind. In fact, if I could have my way, it would be skipped this entire week. At least that’s what the “old” me would have done. I would have gone into this week thinking, “I already know that I will be eating more than I usually do come Thursday, so why bother to workout?” The thinking is that I will just start again on Monday. But like I said, that is what the old … Continue reading

I Must Exercise

In the hustle and bustle of my busy life sometimes I forget to take care of myself. Everyday it seems like my to do list gets longer and longer and time for me gets pushed farther and farther to the bottom. Winter is especially hard, I get a little depressed in the winter, nothing bad, just a little SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but one major downside is that I get very lazy. Everything becomes just too much work. My house falls apart, I don’t cook and I certainly don’t exercise. All I want to do is lay on the couch … Continue reading

Cleaning Your House Aerobically

Can you really get all the exercise you need just by cleaning your house? There are at least two people who thing so. The self proclaimed Clean Momma even has a website and so does Stevie Markovich. Mr. Markovich says he has kept himself in shape for the last sixteen years with aerobic housecleaning exercises. Just the sound of that makes me tired. Mr. Markovich performs lunges and hip twists while vacuuming, he also wears a backpack full of books while mowing the lawn to increase the workout. The craziest thing is lifting the couch with one arm while vacuuming … Continue reading

Don’t Let Winter Become an Excuse to Not Exercise

Lately I have been thinking a lot about spring. I am thinking about sunshine and warmth. I am thinking about those walks I love to take. For some reason the thought of warmer days seems more motivating when it comes to exercise. The long, cold, dreary days of winter can cause the coach potato in all of us to seep in. I seem to have more time for movies and TV shows during the winter. Actually, it’s because I’m not a winter person. I don’t enjoy the cold and I certainly don’t enjoy the snow, despite living in a state … Continue reading
