Falling Off the Wagon

After so many months of doing good, I have fallen off the wagon. The past couple of weeks I have been struggling to get in exercise. Actually, I shouldn’t really say I have been struggling…it has been easy to not exercise. Circumstances in life have gotten me feeling down, and unfortunately I have been handling it (or should I say not handling it) by eating junk food and skipping exercise. I am stuffing my emotions with food, something I thought I had overcome. It’s frustrating that I could so easily allow troubles in life to do this. Months and months … Continue reading

Falling Off The Fingernail Bandwagon

Time to confess defeat. I thought I’d triumphed over my lifelong nail biting habit, but I’ve fallen off the nice nails wagon. In one afternoon, I chewed away several months’ worth of nail growing progress and am back to square one. It’s my own fault, really. I’d been doing so well because I’d take the time to shape and paint my nails every few days. When my nails were pretty and colorful, I didn’t bite them. But I stripped off the polish without repainting them, and BOOM. No more nails. I hardly noticed I was doing it, at first. Then … Continue reading

Pantry Challenge: Falling Off of the Wagon

How many individual packets of sugar does it take to make a half a cup? I’m proud, well, almost proud, to say I now know the answer. I officially ended our pantry challenge when I asked my husband to bring home a bag of sugar (and cold cuts and bread and milk and diapers). My moment of defeat came yesterday when I was faced with fact that it is already February, and we haven’t brought in the class snack for Andrew’s Kindergarten class. Not a problem, I thought, I’ll just make some sugar cookies. I got out the cookie cutters, … Continue reading

Know Your Triggers

Consistency is key to a fit lifestyle. Yet it can be very difficult to implement and stick with. I think one of the ways we can win the war on this is by recognizing the triggers in our life. What are the things that prevent us from remaining consistent? I was recently thinking about this as it can be a huge problem for me. I can be doing well for a time with my eating and then suddenly I am back to making unhealthy choices. I am in my groove with exercising at least five days a week and then … Continue reading

Getting Out of a Fitness Slump

Are you in a fitness slump? Anyone who has been exercising for any amount of time tends to hit these at some point or another. Coming out of a long winter for some, you may have been feeling the monotony of working out at the gym, running on your treadmill and using the stationary bike. But with warmer weather comes the chance to get out of the same-old, same-old and try something new. Being stuck indoors can put anyone in a fitness slump. There is just something about fresh air that gets the blood coursing. Get outside and walk or … Continue reading

You Can Have a Successful Fitness Routine

It can feel like a successful fitness routine is impossible. But I think many times that’s because we are looking for instant results. We don’t see the importance of building up our routine, learning how to be consistent and the hard work it takes to get where we want to be. Too often we have the end result in mind. We are fixated on losing a certain number of pounds, fitting into that dress, or being ready for the summer season. What we have to focus on is the here and now. A routine is something you do without even … Continue reading

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that retailers are really hoping that you, the consumer, will be suffering from frugal fatigue this holiday season, and they will be doing everything they can in order to encourage you to let go of frugal habits and spend this season. The holidays are usually a time to spend and indulge, so it really a danger zone when it comes to falling off of the frugal wagon. If you aren’t careful, you may wind up spending more than you planned. If you have solid financial goals, such as to pay down debt, to save … Continue reading

Don’t Give Up

The other day I blogged about falling off the fitness wagon, something I am sure many can relate to. I was so down about it and so afraid to step on my Wii balance board (my scale). I was sure it was going to show that I had completely demolished all of my hard work. I hadn’t weighed myself in almost two weeks and I didn’t anticipate anything good to come of it. Imagine my surprise when I saw that despite my fall, I had still lost a pound. How is that possible, I thought? Didn’t I completely fall back … Continue reading

Disappointments and Delights

Fitness has become a source of both disappointments and delights. Sometimes the disappointments are just a matter of being impatient. I don’t want to wait for results. Other times the disappointments are a result of my own failures. The delights come in those measureable successes and knowing that I have overcome a particular challenge. It’s like a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. So here is where I confess my biggest disappointment in myself. After starting off on such a good fitness routine, I ended up falling off the wagon. I couldn’t remember the last time I had exercised until … Continue reading

Weighing Thy Self

The experts say that once a week or even once a month is the best way to do it. I say, “Whatever works for you.” I do it once, twice, even three times a day. A mistake? Possibly. However, in my experience I have come to discover that if I do not weigh myself this often I think that I am off the hook and tend to forget about my goals. It is my way of staying on top of things. There is even a club for the obsessive weighers like myself. At http://weight-loss.fitness.com/club/7618-weigh-yourself-everyday-club-272.html you will have company if this … Continue reading
