Exercise: It’s Good for the Heart

Most of us have already failed miserably at keeping our New Year’s Resolutions, according to the radio this morning at least 80% of us have given up on them already. This is pretty typical after the first week or two, but even if you’ve struggled with them a little so far, you have a whole year to perfect them so don’t give up hope! This year one of my many resolutions was to start exercising again. I, like most people, put on a few extra pounds during the holidays. When you have kids around there seems to be an endless … Continue reading

Men Exercise More Than Women

I recently read in an article that the recommended guidelines of getting in at least 30 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous physical activity at least four to five times a week is more likely to happen with men. Yes women, men are apparently doing better at meeting fitness guidelines. The importance of exercise cannot be understated. It can prevent more than just putting on extra weight. It can ward off serious health problems. One of the biggest concerns in this country is a condition called metabolic syndrome. It usually strikes individuals who are obese. It is a set … Continue reading

Finding the Right Supplies

Depending on the theme of your scrapbook layout, finding the right supplies can be a breeze or it can be downright frustrating. Obviously, if you are crafting a traditional birthday, wedding or Christmas, Easter or Halloween-themed design, getting your hands on appropriate scrapbooking materials is fairly simple. However, if you are trying to craft a layout to commemorate your cousin’s new job as the director of the city’s Planning Department, you might be forced to exercise a bit more creativity. In a previous post, I shared a little about my neighbor’s recent adventure to see Disney on Ice: Treasure Trove. … Continue reading

Continued Exercise During Pregnancy

It was my first pregnancy that convinced me that exercise should be a regular and consistent part of my daily and weekly routine. Having developed a firm commitment to exercise in the last three years, I find myself not only enjoying my workout routine during my second pregnancy but depending on it for relief from pregnancy aches and pains. I have discovered now more than ever before that consistency in a prenatal exercise is essential to a healthy pregnancy. In early pregnancy I continued to do my regular workouts without any need for modification. My goals at the beginning of … Continue reading

The Top Five Reasons Why I Love to Exercise During Pregnancy

As hard as it is to get starting on a regular exercise routine, maintaining it can be even harder. We all know that there are a million reasons why we cannot seem to find the time or motivation to exercise, but we cannot deny the benefits of regular exercise. While we tend to focus on the negative aspects of exercise (overcoming obstacles, finding the time and motivation, etc.), there are even more positive reasons to start a workout regimen. Upon my own personal reflection of the last few years of my own exercise routine, I realized that I have gained … Continue reading

Exercise and the Single Mother

It’s amazing the toll that pregnancy can take on our bodies. Before I had my son I could eat anything I wanted and it never showed. I could eat ice cream all day every day if I wanted and no one would know the difference. After my son was born reality set in. My metabolism just wasn’t what it used to be, my body would never be the same again. I didn’t have a lot of trouble with the initial baby weight coming off, but no matter what I did my body just didn’t look the same anymore. Pregnancy had … Continue reading

Finding the Time

Is it hard to find the time to exercise? Life gets busy. Maybe you are balancing school and work or busy with your kids and other demands. Whatever it is that you have going on it can really be a challenge to find the time to exercise. One solution I have come up with is changing your daily or weekly routines to add some extra steps or squeeze in a ten minute workout. Doing ten or fifteen minutes here and there can be easier than finding a longer consecutive block of time. Remember that doing something is better than nothing! … Continue reading

Exercise For Free!

In this economy it might be hard to afford a gym or have sessions with a personal trainer. Sometimes lack of a gym might be used as an excuse not to exercise. However, regardless of your financial situation, there is always a way to exercise. I currently don’t belong to a gym. I attend a twice a week workout class at the local community college which averages to about $5 a class. Although I enjoy my class, two days a week is not enough for me to get in all the cardio I need. I have come up with two … Continue reading
