Fitness Doldrums

Fitness doldrums…they are likely to hit anyone who engages in an exercise program for any length of time. They can hit you early on or not until later. But they are a common reason for people to lose motivation. You lost your zest, your energy. It becomes boring and monotonous. You start to wonder if it’s really making any difference. One of the common reasons for fitness doldrums to hit is because you have reached your plateau. You can only go up but you choose to remain where you are. Perhaps it’s just a matter of challenging yourself? You walk … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Family Sick Day

There’s nothing worse than waking up not feeling well. Okay, there’s one thing that’s worse – when you wake up not feeling well and the rest of the family appears to be suffering from the same malady that you are. That makes it pretty rotten – all the way around. As a mom, my first duty is to take care of the kiddo, but when you’re feeling rotten – – it’s hard to find the energy. Don’t Exercise When You’re Sick A good rule of thumb is to not exercise when you’re sick. But like with many other things in … Continue reading

Dance Your Way To Fitness

One of the problems people run into when they start talking about exercise and fitness is that they don’t like to ‘exercise.’ ‘Exercise’ is boring. Truthfully, dating back to gym class, who really liked running laps? Doing sit-ups? Doing push-ups? Very few of us. Today, doing sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, leg-ups, leg presses, bicep curls, triceps presses and flies may sound like the ideal recipe for a mind-numbing, body pain inflicting experience. And you know what, that’s okay. If you really hate exercise, there’s no rule that says you have to like it. Frankly, I hate reality television. I don’t find … Continue reading

Bad Habits

Bad habits…we all have them.  But bad habits in fitness can make losing weight difficult. The problem with habits is that they are difficult to break.  So a new way to approach this is to look at it as not having to break habits but developing new ones.  It sounds more positive, doesn’t it? Let’s start with some bad habits when it comes to food.  How many times does your family get fast food?  It’s gotten so bad that eating out once-a-week is looked at as healthy.  One of my goals for the New Year is going to be cutting … Continue reading

Get Up and Get Moving

In the world of fitness and health, there is a lot of talk about the need to remain physically active.  So you might think that as long as you’re getting in half an hour of exercise everyday, physical activity levels are being met. Not so fast.  There may be more to it than this.  In fact, a new study looks at women in particular and finds that despite exercising; too much sitting doesn’t reduce the risk of certain health conditions.  In other words, you are no better off in lowering the chance of diabetes, premature death, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. … Continue reading

Inexpensive Exercise

One of my biggest complaints, when it comes to fitness, is how expensive it can be to eat healthy. I find it frustrating when healthier choices require more out of your pocketbook. As challenging as this can sometimes be, we can at least take advantage of inexpensive exercise. In fact, some of it is downright free. Pretty soon we will be heading into the holidays where a few pounds might get put on. Then we will be seeing advertisements on television for gym memberships. This will be your opportunity to take off the extra weight and start the New Year … Continue reading

Hump Day Hesitations & The 4th of July

Let me preface this by saying Happy 4th of July to all our American readers and visitors. For everyone else, good morning. Wednesdays are a particularly tough day for a fitness program, why? Because Wednesdays are a particularly tough day for anything. It’s hump day. It’s the middle of the week and that means you are either still caught up in the doldrums of the Monday lag or your eye is firmly on Friday and you don’t want to think about today. Keep Your Fitness Thoughts on Today You need to practice focusing on your day to day work and … Continue reading
