Monday Fast Fitness Plans

Monday mornings! I’ve never been a fan of Monday mornings. I spent my 4th of July weekend sick and in bed for the most part. Our plans were tabled for me, though I sent the husband and daughter out to have a good time. I got to enjoy their stories and their wonder at the fireworks and much more. But here it is, the long weekend is over and we are approaching the halfway mark of summer. July also marked the beginning of the back half of the year. Not to make you look at the calendar, but school starting … Continue reading

Fitness Goes to the Dogs

Do you remember the scene in One Hundred and One Dalmatians when Pongo comments on how dogs and their owners often look the same? It’s a mildly humorous statement, yet it can be accurate. Your dog may be a very accurate reflection of your personal health. If your dog is overweight, chances are he or she isn’t getting enough exercise. Does that suggest that maybe you aren’t getting enough exercise too? The average pet owner that walks their dogs regularly is going to cover more ground than those who just hit the gym to work out. Avoiding obesity in the teen years

By the time your kids get to their teens years, they have taken over control of their schedules, and keeping them active is a feat of monstrous proportions. With today’s’ technological advancements, they are much more content to stay inside than we were at their age. They are attached to their computers, video games, and cell phones. There is no need to visit with friends or to go outside and play. Back when I was a teen, I walked two miles to the library, or a half mile to my friends house and then took the stairs to her fourth … Continue reading

Growing Older

Growing older doesn’t mean life has to be uninteresting. Also it doesn’t necessarily mean dressing in drab and uninteresting colors and clothing styles. I like to wear blue, purple, red or hot pink rather than neutral beiges etc. Mick likes to see me in those colors. And I like to please him. For Christmas he bought me a beautiful patchwork skirt in those shades. Yes, he went and picked it all by himself. What’s more, it’s something I love and could have picked myself, which shows how well he knows my tastes. Yet I’ve hear other women tell me their … Continue reading

Walking For Seniors

Walking is a great form of exercise at just about any age! A study from Japan — recently published by the Mayo Clinic — reports that walking is especially good for elderly adults. The elderly population is growing rapidly in many countries around the world. High intensity walking (and other forms of exercise) can decrease the chances of disability and lower the risk of some age associated diseases. Moderately paced walking — a pace around six kilometers or 3.7 miles per hour — can help protect against disability. Walking and other exercise can strengthen muscles, improve balance and flexibility, and … Continue reading

Why am I so tired?

I found out I was pregnant and I was a little relieved, after all I’d been exhausted all the time. In fact, part of the reason I found out I was pregnant was because I went to the doctor to find out if I was sick. I’d been so tired and that was so unusual for me. It hit me over night, it seemed. One day I was fine and then over the course of a weekend, I felt run down and almost constantly craving a nap. The Amazing Race Your body is really quite wonderful. During what is called … Continue reading
