Fitness in Your 40’s

Well, we have looked at fitness in your 20’s and 30’s and now we are on to my personally favorite decade, the 40’s. I don’t exactly know what it was about turning 40 but it felt great. For me, this is the decade where I began to get much more serious about fitness. I realize it would have been beneficial to get an earlier start but what I am learning about this decade is that it’s never too late. I have found yoga to especially be beneficial, which has helped in improving my posture and gaining flexibility. But in your … Continue reading

Fitness in Your 30’s

So in my last blog we talked about fitness in your 20’s and how these are the prime years to start off with healthy habits. So now we are going to look at fitness in your 30’s. The 30’s tend to be the time when many of us have started or are well into raising families. The 30’s are a busy decade. In many cases we are married, have children and are working. The idea of finding time to squeeze in some exercise may sound impossible. But it is during this period that it is most crucial you find the … Continue reading

Boost Your Brain Power With Meditation

Your brain is like a muscle. Without exercise, it can begin to weaken — just like any muscle. Researchers from Harvard University have been studying the effects of meditation on brain erosion, with surprising results. In your early 20s, your brain begins to erode — specifically the areas that deal with decision making, attention span, and memory. The Harvard study compared the MRI scans of people who meditated daily with those of people who did not meditate at all. The long-time meditators had thicker brains in the areas that eroded in non-meditators: the areas that deal with attention, memory, and … Continue reading

Exercising while Pregnant

Pregnancy doesn’t have to be a time in which you become a couch potato, eat everything in sight and gain more weight than necessary. Maintaining a fitness regime or even starting one up after becoming pregnant is important. Some people think that exercising while pregnant is dangerous. It can be if done incorrectly. This is why it’s always a good idea to first talk with your doctor. You may have certain restrictions or exercises that should be avoided. But for the most part, anything goes. Some exercises are particularly beneficial when you are pregnant. This includes walking, weight training, swimming, … Continue reading

Benefits of Exercise When Pregnant

With three teenagers, having a baby is the last thing on my mind. But with so many women I know around me carrying a child, I was thinking about how differently I might have felt nearly 18, 15 and 13 years ago when I was pregnant if I had been more active. Exercise may be the last thing on earth you feel like doing when you are pregnant. You may be dealing with nausea and a lack of energy. You may feel big as a house. But many of the aches and pains that come along with pregnancy could be … Continue reading

Pet Diabetes on the Rise

Diabetes runs in my family. Even though I’m only in my mid-20s, I’ve tried to start being conscious about what I eat so I can hopefully prevent the onset of the disease, or at least have an easier transition into a diabetes-friendly diet should I need to do so. While I’m prepared for the fact that one day I might learn I have diabetes, it never occurred to me that one of our pets might come down with it as well. That’s right: dogs and cats can get diabetes, and it’s on the rise in canines. MSNBC Health has a … Continue reading

Bali Club and Giveaway

The Bali bra is famously popular in the land of women’s lingerie. Anyone and everyone has heard of it. They make a bra that is so comfortable you may even want to wear it to bed. The Bali Company was born in the late 1920s. A young woman who worked at a bra manufacturing company decided to take it upon herself and improve on what was being sold on the market at that time. She designed a bra which accentuated a woman’s figure instead of squelching a woman’s figure like the bras did at that time. Sara Stein made these … Continue reading
