The Real Wonder Drug

Psychology Today, the magazine, is calling exercise the real wonder drug and who can blame them? The great part about exercise is that it comes with a host benefits beyond the obvious of getting you into good physical shape. Exercise gives your mood a boost and sharpens the mind. You get back more energy than you put out – even after a hard workout. Your sleep is better and far more sound and you are far more likely to awake feeling rested than exhausted. Your blood vessels and heart are kept in great condition and you can’t replace what exercise … Continue reading

Whether you are a beginner or used to working out, you may experience dizziness, disorientation or vertigo while you are working out on a cardiovascular exercise machine whether it’s a treadmill, a stationary bike or a stair master. This can be caused by a number of factors including … Continue reading

September: End of the Month Fitness Goal Check

It’s the last day of September and it’s time to look back at the month behind us. I think it’s important that we take a day to self-assess where we are and where we’re going. We’ve done this for every month of this year and now we’re leaving behind the ninth month of the year, as hard as it is to believe, there are only three months left in this year. October is the month we celebrate Halloween. We have about 30 days to come up with costumes, trick or treating plans and more. It’s also the month that we … Continue reading

Fitness Magazine has come to their second month of their You Can Do It Challenge! Have you been participating? I have. Late Summer Colds & Your Fitness Plans

So yesterday morning I woke up with a stuffy nose, body aches and the low-grade fever. Thrill a moment, all the symptoms of a summer cold. I dislike summer colds because you’re already uncomfortable, but combine the misery of a cold with the high temperatures soaring into the 100s and it’s a perfect recipe for disaster. Fitness Plans As I’ve mentioned before, you can work out while you are sick, but you need to judge your condition not on how tired you are, but on how sick you are. Since I was running a low-grade fever and I was having … Continue reading

Week 2: Fitness Magazine You Can Do It Challenge

Fitness magazine said you can do it, and I’ve been doing it. I signed up and dived into the challenge 10 days ago when I posted the information about the challenge here at the Fitness blog. Now at the end of my second week, I’m more than just a cheerleader for this particular goal-oriented fitness challenge. I need to go in and update my data, but my totals for the last two weeks work out to the following: Cardio – 240 minutes Strength Training – 75 minutes Time To Myself – 600 minutes Pounds Lost – 2 pounds How do … Continue reading

Revisiting the Fitness Magazine: You Can Do It Challenge

I signed up for the Fitness Magazine You Can Do It challenge. I’ve been following their advised workout and let me tell you, four days in – I’m sore. I am pretty good at following my own regular fitness regimen, but this one targets specific areas with specific exercises to be performed in specific time frames. Including Regular Stretching The challenge recommends that you warm up and cool down, I’m also going to include a regular session of deep stretching every evening before bed. While I enjoy the workout as described in the challenge – I think that I am … Continue reading

Why Do A Challenge?

I talked about the Fitness Magazine You Can Do It Challenge earlier and I’ve hosted my own challenges here as well. But why should you participate in a challenge? Several reasons actually, the primary one being – it’s really nice to win or compete. A challenge gives you a direction to go in. It gives you goals to hit. It gives you a barometer to measure your progress against. When you compete in a challenge – whether you are competing online or with a group of people – you are giving yourself and your fitness program a purpose. Competition Breeds … Continue reading
