Get Rid Of Technology Once In a While

As parents we are all looking for ways to keep our children busy. As single parents the evenings are short and there is so much to do, we need something to occupy the kids so we don’t feel quite so guilty for working on the report for work or doing another three loads of laundry and scrubbing the bathroom. Unfortunately, for most of us, the easiest entertainers are electronic. We plop the kids in front of a movie or allow them some extra video game time so we can get done what we need to do. I’m not saying that … Continue reading

Fitness Trends Predicted for 2012

There are already predictions out for what the top 20 fitness trends for 2012 will be. This is according to a survey conducted by the “American College of Sports Medicine.” One of the fitness programs that is said will make this list is (no surprise) Zumba, something I recently blogged about, as it is coming out on Kinect for Xbox 360 in February, 2012. Not only Zumba but other dance workouts will likely be a fitness trend for 2012. The dance wave is hitting fitness centers, classes and video game systems worldwide. Another trend that is predicted is the increase … Continue reading

Best Gifts for Fitness Enthusiasts

So the holiday shopping days are winding down. You may be wondering what some of the best gifts for fitness enthusiasts are. One of the things I have read in a number of articles recently is that older people really enjoy Wii Fit. I don’t consider myself to be in the “older” crowd but I concur, Wii Fit is a great way to get your bum off the couch and become active in fun but beneficial types of exercise. Wii Fit offers a number of interactive fitness games, anything from sports to yoga. But speaking of technology, apparently the iPad … Continue reading

Do Fitness Apps Work?

Technology is amazing. I am always surprised at the innovative ways technology changes our world. Perhaps I am alone in this but I only recently discovered that there are Fitness Apps available for your iPod or iPhone. So now I am left to wonder if fitness apps really work. My husband and I are eagerly waiting for December, when we can upgrade our phones. We have been checking out the Droids and all the features they offer. I was so happy when I recently discovered that fitness apps exist. Apparently there is an app for everything. I tend to get … Continue reading

MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) Sneaker

A few weeks back while shopping I noticed an unusual looking sneaker. It looked quite comfortable although I was not sure that I liked the styling of it. It had a rocker bottom. I tried it on and loved the fact that it made my foot look smaller than it was. However, as I walked down the aisle of the store I was a little unbalanced. I read the literature that came with it and was impressed with the good points made about it. It is called the MBT, or Masai Barefoot Technology. It is also called the anti-shoe. This … Continue reading

Fitness – The Easier Choice

I wish I had a magic hat, one that I could pull great choices out of that would make fitness not only easier to do, but easier to grasp. Once upon a time, I thought that there were just fortunate people in the world who were born fit and healthy. I actually know some people who ‘look’ fit and healthy, but just because they don’t gain weight doesn’t mean they are in great shape. It’s important to remember that fitness isn’t just how you look, it’s a state of mind. You can’t just say I want to be fit, you … Continue reading

10 Best Fitness Choices for 2006

It’s the time of year for making those top ten lists and as I wind up my workweek and look forward to this weekend, I thought what a better way to summarize the year and the work we’ve done here at Families.com and get in a little fun at the same time. Towards that effort, I have thought about some of the fitness choices we’ve discussed here in the Fitness Blog and I’ve thought about the New Year’s Resolutions we are all considering for next year and those that we planned for this year. In that light, here are my … Continue reading

My Fitness DVD Wish List

Okay, so it’s time for me to add to my own wish list for potential present ideas and one of my favorite things to get at Christmas are new workouts to explore. So I spent some time on Amazon studying the different fitness DVDs out there and making a list and checking it twice. My husband laughed when I showed him the list because a couple of them seem like odd choices for me – but I thought I’d share my fitness wish list with you and suggest that you might want to take a look at what’s out there … Continue reading

Gift Certificates for Fitness

Can you buy a gift certificate that promises fitness for a loved one or friend? Sure you can and while gift certificates are not always the first choice for some of us when it comes to shopping – don’t discount them as a great idea. For example: A gift certificate to a day spa is a great way to encourage a massage and personal pampering, these items are good for men and women alike and it’s a great way to encourage mental and emotional fitness along with physical fitness A gift certificate for personal training sessions helps to motivate, but … Continue reading
