Fitness - The Easier Choice

I wish I had a magic hat, one that I could pull great choices out of that would make fitness not only easier to do, but easier to grasp. Once upon a time, I thought that there were just fortunate people in the world who were born fit and healthy. I actually know some people who 'look' fit and healthy, but just because they don't gain weight doesn't mean they are in great shape. It's important to remember that fitness isn't just how you look, it's a state of mind. You can't just say I want to be fit, you have to be proactive about your choices. What does that mean?

  • Choose cold water instead of cold soda
  • Choose the stairs, not the escalator
  • Choose the skinny mocha instead of the regular super sized one

These are just little choices, but every single one of them counts.

Fit Choices

Do you want to make the choice to be more fit? Then you have to be willing to make more fit choices in what you do. It's not about saying the Diet Coke offsets the chocolate cake, you can't choose one as a lesser of two evils.

When I was in London last week, I spent a lot of time walking, using the busses and the Underground. With the heavy traffic in the city, it's just easier to get around on foot and you will see a lot of foot traffic in the city. Here at home, my daughter and I walk or ride bikes back and forth to her school -- it's an easy choice to make considering gas prices, but it's also the fit choice.

Sometimes, our technology inhibits our fit choices, we have to look beyond the technology to remember that we're a people who grew up crossing continents on our two legs. We plowed fields, we mowed yards and we hiked to stores -- we did this under our own power. Granted, I grew up in a world inhabited by vehicles, but does that mean I can't make the fit choice despite that?

Make Fitness Your Easy Choice

Two years ago I made the following statement and I believe as much today as I did then

The important part about making fitness a lifestyle choice and making it easy for you is so that you will keep doing it. All the experts in the world can tell you what they do and I can tell you what I do, but what you need to know is what you can do and what is easy for you to maintain that level of fitness.

Will you make the Fit Choice today?
