There is truth in the statement that when you behave a certain way, it reflects on how you view yourself internally. Your internal views affect how you present yourself. So if you see yourself as someone who is weak, insecure and uncertain - that is how you will act. The following tips are designed to boost your self-confidence.

While you may look at these tips and say - oh, I would never do that - then perhaps those are exactly the tips you should try your hat at. Half of any fitness program is envisioning a more positive self-image. When you see yourself as fit, trim and in good shape - you are more likely to complete your workout on a regular.

Self-image and self-confidence are intrinsically linked. So here are three tips for helping you build your self-confidence and in turn, your self-image:

  • Connect with your parents - even as adults, we may feel awkward about our parents and their thoughts and influence. We may experience embarrassment if we think we have failed them in some fashion. Consider all the positive influences and teachings they have given you over the years - express to them those positives in person or in a letter. Expressing your respect for and receiving respect from your parents can be a tremendous lift to your self-confidence
  • Take yourself out shopping - save up some money and go to a high-end department store and look for a personal shopper. Tell them you are looking to change your image and see what they can offer. These types of shoppers are experts at physical appearance, color matching and style - let them pick out several outfits for you to try on and listen to their opinion objectively - remember, our personal view of how we look is far harsher than other people. If you can purchase one of the outfits, great - but just getting a feel for how you can look can often do wonders.
  • Dare to do Something Different - Have you always dreamed of being the life of the party? Take the stage at an amateur comedy night. Do you want to be the next American Idol? Go to a karaoke bar with your friends and/or spouse and belt it out. Good, bad or indifferent, the crowd at a karaoke bar is likely to applaud, heckle and cheer! You will discover that even the worst butterflies take flight once you've dared to be different

What have you done in the past to boost your self-confidence?
