Give Yourself the Gift of Love This Valentine’s Day

Most of us associate Valentine’s Day with the receiving or giving of gifts to others.  How about making this year one about giving the greatest gift of all?  I’m talking about a gift that begins with you…loving yourself enough to make some important lifestyle changes. Now that the New Year isn’t feeling so new anymore, many of us start to lose grip on the goals and resolutions we set.  The energy and enthusiasm we felt in the beginning of the year to exercise more and eat less has started to wane. In fact, some people might even be suffering from … Continue reading

Fitness Should Be a Lifestyle Change

We’re just a few days into the New Year.  Are you still feeling the same resolve to make this a healthier year? It’s no secret that gym clubs are swarming in the month of January.  More fruits and vegetables are purchased in January.  Changes are being made across the board. Yet it’s not uncommon for this to start dropping off in February and March.  By April it’s pretty obvious who are going to be the ones most likely to stick it out. While the good intentions are there, it won’t be what keeps you going.  There has to be more … Continue reading

52 Fitness Changes – Part 2

I recently introduced you to the idea of making 52 fitness changes. As a reminder, this isn’t something I suggest you do at one time. Instead, you spread these changes out and make one change a week. Since there are 52 weeks in a year, by the end of the year you will have done some amazing things to improve your health. I also suggested that you print these blogs, to use as a reference. You can follow the order I suggest or change things around. You can also tweak some of the changes I suggest to fit you better. … Continue reading

Reflections on Fitness

Before setting New Year’s resolutions, goals or whatever else you like to call the changes we often focus on with the dawning of a brand new year, I always like to first reflect on the past year. When it comes to fitness, you might want to take a look at how you have done in the past year. Did you lose weight? Did you start exercising more? Do you find that you are healthier? What accomplishments have you made? For me it has been developing a more active lifestyle. Now one of my goals for the New Year will be … Continue reading

A Free Day From Fitness

Should there be a free day from fitness? A free day is usually one day a week where all fitness rules go out the window. You get to enjoy the day by not feeling guilty that you haven’t exercised and you get to eat what you like. Free days can be different for everyone. In my opinion, one whole day a week where you eat unhealthy and sit around doesn’t seem like a good idea. However I don’t think there is anything wrong with taking one day off from exercising or maybe allowing yourself one treat on your free day. … Continue reading

Break Out of Your Fitness Rut

Fall doesn’t officially arrive until September 22nd, but there is no reason to wait another 10 days to kick-start a new exercise routine. By shifting gears and altering your weekly workout regime (even a tad), you’ll see results faster and avoid frustrating ruts and plateaus. Before diving head first into a new fitness schedule consider the following: Scenery. Mix it up a bit. A change of scenery can benefit all of us. This is especially true if you have a hard time motivating yourself to get up for that 6 a.m. jog or bike ride on a crisp (see: cold) … Continue reading

X is for eXtreme Fitness

Everyone has to stretch for a good X word when you do a list of alphabet tips and in our case, we’re doing exercise tips. I could have gone X is for eXercise, but eXtreme fitness is a topic we don’t talk about here as often as we might. The idea of extreme fitness is that you push yourself to your limit during every single workout that you do. The idea is based on no pain, no gain. Extreme fitness buffs want to feel the pain from their workout, believing that without that pain they won’t achieve their fitness goals. … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Welcome Back from the Weekend

Welcome back to my personal fitness journal and I hope you had a great weekend. One of my primary goals is to demonstrate how you can incorporate fitness into your every day lifestyle whether you have kids, you work out of your house or you work in an office. You can do it whether you are male or female, married or single – all you need is the will to find the way that works for you. I’ve discovered over the last couple of years that while working with a personal trainer was a powerful motivator for me, I had … Continue reading
