How Do I Get Rid of Stomach Fat?

Today’s blog will address a commonly asked question, “How do I get rid of stomach fat?” While most of us might think its doing exercises like crunches, abdominal exercises really don’t help to flatten your stomach. They actually help to strengthen your core and back. So just because you hear that a form of exercise is for the abdomen, don’t mistakenly believe it will tone the tummy area. Or don’t fall for some of the infomercials that spotlight exercise equipment which will “flatten your stomach in just one week.” What a lot of people fail to realize is that the … Continue reading

Do Toning Shoes Really Work?

Pull on some shoes, step outside for a walk and burn lots of extra calories. At least, these are the promises of toning shoes, foot ware that promises to tone up your lower body with no extra effort. The idea behind toning shoes is the principal that if the shoe is unstable, it will force your muscles to work differently in order to keep your balance. This extra work is supposed to firm your muscles and burn up more calories. The concept is nothing new, believe it or not. Does any one remember Dr. Scholl’s sandals? Theses wooden sandals featured … Continue reading

Burning Calories Inside this Winter

As the weather gets colder many begin to shut down and hibernate for the winter. The hibernation you put yourself in can lead to a very overweight spring. It is important to stay active all year long regardless of the weather otherwise your consumed calories will sneak up on you. I have a tendency to stay indoors and home more during the winter months. Staying home has never been good for the size of my hips. To combat that I had to find ways to stay active indoors during those cold gray months. Activities to Keep You Moving During the … Continue reading

Do Interactive Fitness Video Games Really Work?

When I first started using Wii Fit Plus, my oldest son asked if “that thing” really works. He thought it was kind of funny and not a true way to get healthy. I was convinced only because a good friend of mine had lost weight using it (along with changing her eating habits). Since I have been using it for several months now, I can definitely say that it works. How else do you explain the weight loss and inches I have taken off…or the increased energy and flexibility I have? I have been using it during the winter months … Continue reading

Lose 5 Pounds with Yoplait!

I only eat one kind of brand of yogurt. I walk through the dairy aisle of my store and pass up half a dozen brands to get to my favorite. A few times a good sale caught my wandering eye and I cheated on my favorite brand with another. Each time I was disappointed and begged forgiveness to the only yogurt for me. All other yogurts are runny, have boring flavors or have that distinct yogurty taste I dislike. Are you suggesting that I really don’t like yogurt? I’ve considered that myself many times. Yet, my Yoplait never disappoints in … Continue reading

How many calories do I burn blogging?

Like many of you, I often feel that exercise does not fit into my daily routine. I’m a mom to four children, wife, dog parent, blogger and writer. My day begins with a yawn and very often ends with a yawn. In between all of that, I find my eating habits suffer or are nonexistent. One can hardly call grabbing a bagel or a protein bar in the midst of chaos an eating habit as it is more like an eating disaster. So, between chasing kids, writing articles and eating on a semi regular basis while only dreaming of that … Continue reading

Feeling Upbeat and Trimming Down

I have not written a lot about my fitness results lately. I hit a few bumps in the road a couple of months ago and backslid. With it came a wave of self-disappointment and a less than cheery mood. I am used to this type of thing happening because I have dealt with it in the past in my self, but I am a pretty good trooper with a lot of help from someone who watches over me. I got back in the saddle again and I am riding off into the wild blue yonder with a wave of excellent … Continue reading

Walking Into Fall With Both Eyes Open

My favorite time of the year is fast approaching. There is something about fall that is so special to me. I am not sure if it is the crisp, autumn air, the changing colors of the leaves, the start of shorter days when it seems like you can kick back and take it easier with the busyness of summer behind you. One thing is certain though, exercising in the fall is much easier to do outdoors. There is no heat or humidity to slow you down. You do not sweat nearly as much as you did in the summer months. … Continue reading

More Fitness Myth Busters

Apparently, big muscles aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. According to a new study, not only does exercise not boost metabolism as much as widely believed, but even more shocking, is the fact that increased muscle mass doesn’t speed up weight loss either. Researchers maintain that while a pound of muscle burns more calories than a pound of fat — about seven to 10 calories a day versus two calories — most people don’t put on enough muscle to make much of a difference. “Building muscle is very difficult for most individuals because it requires heavy weight workouts and … Continue reading
