Rugby is a sport that's actually catching on in the States and it's funny, when I was growing up - I knew what Rugby was along with Cricket because I spent time in England with our family there, but most of my friends had no idea what it was. As it is - soccer is not football in the United States and that's that. But if you are interested in learning more about training for rugby, here are a few suggestions.

Rugby is a great sport where interval training comes in handy. Interval training requires heavy bouts of work separated by periods of rest. In other words, you can run a sprint for 2 minutes, break for 3 minutes, then run another sprint. You may also do power lifts of weights - say lifting 50 pounds for two give it your all lifts and then a rest of three minutes before doing it again.

Athletes

When you use interval training, it helps athletes to maintain and improve their workload. It allows them to reach their oxygen debt and it helps them to improve their performance in the sports of their choice because in many sports - it's a lot of hurry up and wait. Whether you enjoy football, baseball or marathons - you will need to be able to build up your bursts of energy at the same time as you are maximizing your overall performance.

It's important to under take interval training with an expert - either a personal trainer or a coach. You need someone to help you monitor your progress. Your interval training can be modified to match just about any sport - so check it out and give it a shot. You might surprise yourself!

Have you ever played rugby?
