Jumping Ban

This just in: Trampolines are dangerous for kids. In other news, the sky is blue. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. Earlier today, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announced that parents should ban trampolines from their backyards, as they could be potential death traps for kids. Citing nearly 100,000 serious injuries in 2009, the AAP issued the warning and noted that safety nets parents erect around the personal jumping devices do little to protect kids from harm. In fact, members of the AAP state that trampoline nets are often more of a detriment than a benefit because they … Continue reading

Great Blog for Workouts and Motivation

Have you heard of Peanut Butter Fingers? No, it isn’t a new treat on the market it is a blog about fitness. I recently became aware of this blog while looking for workout routines I could effectively do in my home. Most home workouts are on DVD’s or Netflix. After a while they get boring and you lack the motivation to pop in the DVD or switch over to Netflix. I wanted to find something with teeth and something to fight the boredom. On my search I found a few tips here and there but it was not until looking … Continue reading

The Jumper

When our son first began trying to jump it was a very amusing thing. He’d raise his arms and bring them back down. While there was a lot of sleight of hand and misdirection on his part, his feet never left the ground. Over time he’s become better at jumping. It started with raising up to his tip toes and eventually off of one of his feet. These small, but steady progresses towards actually jumping have been fascinating to watch as a human being and even more interesting as the father of the jumping student in question. His first big … Continue reading

Jump N Land

I love our house. I wish we weren’t so far away from everything, but I still love where we live. We have a large property and the potential for a great and kid-friendly yard. Unfortunately, we do not have a fence; we cannot let the toddler go out back to play because out back is too vast and open. Jessie never stays put and wants to go visit the neighbors. Toddlers need places to play. Toddlers need to run and jump and climb. Toddlers need to be able to be as loud as they want to be. One of my … Continue reading

Why You Should Get Your Kids to Jump Rope

Did you know that 15 percent of American children are overweight or obese? Jumping rope is not only good for boosting your mood during cold, gloomy winter days, but it is also a simple and fun exercise that burns calories. If your child has shifted into couch potato mode and you are looking for a way … Continue reading

Teaching the Gospel: Proper Preparation

Proper preparation is one of the keys to successfully teaching the gospel. This applies to gospel teaching at home and at church. Often when we think about preparation our minds jump to the perfect handout or goodies to go with the lesson. We may be thinking of the elaborate centerpiece, instead of the actual lesson that we are teaching. When you begin to prepare a lesson you first need to prepare yourself. You can do this through reading the scriptures, praying, and pondering. You should strive to have the Spirit with you, before you sit down to prepare, and before … Continue reading
