Product Review-Bottle Warmers On the Go

Now that I am formula feeding, and using a formula that has to be refrigerated until the baby is ready to drink it, I have found that even a simple trip to the park took a lot of preparation and work. I have been trying to figure out a solution to travel with baby bottles, keep them cold, and heat them easily. I think I finally found the solution. I started by buying what I thought made the most sense. A bottle warmer for the car. However, after trying two different models, I found it very frustrating. Since my particular … Continue reading

My Perfect Water Bottle

I am an advocate for drinking water and lots of it! Whether it is for your workout or just regular day routine, you need to be hydrating. I also try to be green and tend to steer away from using individual, non-reusable bottles. I am always trying to drink 8 glasses a day which would be about 8 individual bottles! Instead I have decided to fill up a reusable water bottle for my daily activities and workouts. Finding a perfect water bottle has been a long, grueling process. I find one that looks alright, buy it because how else can … Continue reading

Recovering from a Tear or Episiotomy

Not every baby has a tiny head, is born at the perfect speed and in the perfect position, and not every woman is blessed with the abilities of “Stretch Armstrong” when it comes to childbirth; so it’s not surprising that more than half of women either tear or have an episiotomy during labor. It’s extremely common and unfortunately, recovery can be quite painful. But, there are some things that you can do to make it a little more comfortable. One of the best things you can do to help the recovery process is to take two or three brief, shallow … Continue reading

A Picture Perfect Day Courtesy of a Perfect Stranger

Have you ever had one of those days? A day that begins completely ordinary, but magically turns extraordinary? I had one a few weeks ago and have been meaning to write about it ever since. The day started off very typically—-feeding my daughter breakfast and getting ready to tackle our to-do list. The one thing that made this day a bit different was the fact that there was not a cloud in the sky. It was an unbelievably beautiful spring day with above normal temperatures. After what has been dubbed by many around Wisconsin as the longest winter on record … Continue reading

The Skinny on Skinny Water

Drinking lots of water is one of my ‘tricks’ for optimizing weight loss. I find that it gives me something to do (instead of reaching for food), fills up my stomach so I am not as hungry, staves off cravings for sweets (often times a craving for sweets is really thirst), and keeps me from drinking my real favorite drink: soda. Diet gurus have also reported that drinking ice cold water causes your body to expend calories drinking it because it has to warm the water up. Water is surely the perfect no calorie drink. However, there is a newer … Continue reading

Money-Saving Mom Moves

School starts here in just a few weeks. Never mind that Target and Wal-Mart erected their school supply displays on the day after Fourth of July. “Mommy, is summer over?” my 7-year-old asked as we strolled by the cases of new pencils, pens and binders on JULY 5th. For weeks, I’ve resisted going near those aisles. I’m dreading having to dig deep to purchase all new supplies, plus uniforms, shoes, and the 17,000 other accessories that students need to tackle a new academic year. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to snap out of my denial phase pretty soon. Sure, my … Continue reading

Safe Housekeeping During Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, you may find yourself suddenly motivated to clean more than you usually do. Of course, you may not, and that is also perfectly normal. I never experienced an overwhelming urge to clean house during either of my pregnancies, although I did clean a little more than normal during my second pregnancy. Cleaning during pregnancy is not harmful in and of itself. When the urge to clean strikes, be careful about what products you use to clean, and about some of the chores that you choose to tackle. If you have been bitten by the housekeeping bug, … Continue reading

What To Do If Your Toddler Acts Like A Baby

Did you know that toddlers sometimes regress and act like babies even if there is not an actual baby around the house? Whether the regression in your toddler’s behavior is due to the arrival of a sibling, a major change like a move, starting preschool or day care, a divorce, or even just simply feeling overwhelmed by being a big boy or a big girl it is perfectly normal. It is also okay for you to play along and baby your toddler by letting him or her drink water from a bottle, snuggle on your lap, have extra hugs and … Continue reading

Age Appropriate Chores for Kids

As parents it is our job to make sure our kids grow up to be responsible citizens of society, part of that is teaching them the value of hard work. One of the best ways to teach this is through giving your child chores during the week. Even your little ones can help around the house. The younger you start, the easier it will be, but don’t worry kids can learn to work at any age, so if you haven’t started yet, it’s ok, they just might fight you a little harder on it at first. Kids don’t want to … Continue reading

A Little Bit Greener

I’m just about ready to give up housecleaning. Everything I read tells me it’s bad for the planet, the chemicals in cleaners are polluting the air and water and all those containers are winding up in the landfill. Of course I’m being just a little facetious, but you see what I’m saying. The more we try to do right – keeping our homes clean and germ free, the more harm we do to the environment. I’m sure that most of us are doing what we can to solve this problem but I do know that for me, using only green … Continue reading
