Yes, you read the title of this piece right. We're gearing up for the new school year and it's a great time to begin setting up fitness resolutions for the latter half of the year. Who says that you need it to be the turning of the year to set up new resolutions? In fact, the sad part of New Year's resolutions is that more than 50% of people who start off their New Year with resolutions have already dropped them or failed by March.

January is the busiest month for people in the fitness industry, so there are a lot more deals to be found at the end of the summer than there are in the middle of winter. With this in mind, here's a bit of advice on setting up your new school year fitness resolutions:

  • Make a Doctor's Appointment and get a physical. This is a great way to review what your current condition is and it's also a good time to consult with your physician on the workout plan you are interested in beginning. Listen to your doctor's advice.
  • With the doctor's help, you can set your benchmark figures as well as creating a realistic weight loss and diet expectations to go with your fitness program as needed.
  • Resolve to eat more vegetables and fruits - it's amazing how a dietary change as simple as that can improve your fitness because vegetables are ful of vitamins and also help combat problems with illness
  • Start ordering all your sauces on the side, sounds weird but this is a great way to minimize how much of it you are consuming - the same with seasonings and such
  • Start Walking more every day - find ways to increase the number of steps you take - this is a good component whether you are doing a regular fitness program or not
  • Don't Sweat the Setbacks - if you miss your daily workout, don't give up, just get back on the horse the next day. It takes time to make new habits - so if you miss six days, that's okay too, just keep going back to it, sooner or later you will find yourself exercising more often than not

What new school year fitness resolutions will you set for yourself?
