Outdoor vs. Indoor Workouts

I sometimes wonder whether I prefer indoor or outdoor workouts. Where I live, weather isn’t usually a major factor. I guess it depends on what my schedule is like, how motivated I am, and if I am working out with someone. Outdoor Workouts I enjoy outdoor workouts because I love fresh air. Hiking and biking are great ways to get moving and see the world around. Hiking especially is a passion of mine because I love nature, especially tress and animals. Biking I also enjoy because you can go far in a short time. Walking can be a convenient workout … Continue reading

Exercise & Your Back

Does your back hurt? Mine does from time to time. Part of that is I spend hours every day parked in front of my computer, typing like a fiend. I can get caught up in my writing and my back will wait quietly as I spend an hour, then two and even three in a row before it begins to tighten up in protest and when I stand up, I can feel the aching creaks traveling up and down my spine. Good posture can help prevent back pain, but honestly, it’s not always enough. Different Strokes for Different Folks Back … Continue reading

G.I. Jane – Is it the right track for you?

When I say G.I. Jane, I’m not referring to enlisting in the military, though I know many people who do this and they leave it in better shape than they ever thought possible. Instead, I’m talking about the fitness craze that’s headlined on Oprah and is making waves on the fitness circuit – they call it boot camp. If you want to reinvent yourself and give yourself a body makeover – a boot camp is the way to go. So What is a Boot Camp? It’s not quite about running 50 miles with a pack on your back and dropping … Continue reading

Good morning, it’s a soggy Saturday here. It started raining yesterday and it’s been quite drenching. They are worried about freezing temperatures and there’s every chance we’ll have freezing rain and ice storms today so I have a feeling we’ll be fairly housebound for the weekend. But before we dive into that, here is our Fitness Blog week in review. Saturday, January 6 Personal Fitness Challenge – … Continue reading

Pilates – What Do You Need to Know

Joseph Pilates created Pilates (pih-lah-teez) is a mind and body workout that engages the whole body. The former gymnast designed the workout based on yoga and poses based on animals. His goal was to create a workout that helped injured dancers to recover and grow stronger. Like yoga, Pilates focuses on the core of the body (abdominal, obliques, lower back, thighs & butt). It is a flexibility workout, a strength workout, an endurance workout, a coordination, balance and good posture workout. In other words, it does a little bit of everything. Pilates can be a demanding discipline, but like all … Continue reading

Better Breakfast Month

According to American Food Holidays website, September is Better Breakfast Month. I think someone make this month for me. I grew up on Pop Tarts for breakfast. Before … Continue reading
