Fashion Tips for Holiday Parties

What are you wearing to your next holiday party? I’ve got another Christmas shindig coming up on Saturday night. It’s just an annual get together with a group of friends I used to work with. There’ll be lots of kids and lots of food, which means I don’t need to break out my black strapless sequined number and mile-high Manolos (wait, I don’t even own Manolos). Regardless of whether you are attending an office party, family get-together, neighborhood potluck or a black tie affair this holiday season, you’ve probably spent some time wondering what you’re going to wear. Different occasions … Continue reading

Friday Fitness Funnies: Things You Don’t Want to Hear

It’s Friday and I have been having discussions lately with moms who work out at fitness clubs, moms who work out chasing their kids and still other moms who work out at home or through regular walking and running through the neighborhood. While all of these moms have different ways of achieving their fitness goals and likely even have different fitness goals, they are united in some ways. When it comes to fitness and exercising, there a lot of things we don’t want to hear. Some of those things include: You need to really sweat You need to work harder … Continue reading

Friday Fitness Funnies – These Excuses Don’t Fly

Fridays are a great part of the week – they are the day we kick back and relax and try to wind up our week on a positive note. When we’ve skipped our workouts at some point during the week, we’ll start to feel a bit of nagging guilt because whether we had good excuses for missing the workout or not – we feel guilt for having missed a day. For example, I’ve missed every one of my workouts this week and I know that my excuses were valid – my husband is recovering from major surgery and sleeping a … Continue reading

Friday Fitness Funnies – Coffee or Tea?

I am definitely one of those people who needs the shirt that says: Instant Person – Just Add Coffee. It’s not the caffeine so much as it is my morning ritual of having coffee. Oddly, that only began in the last decade or so. Prior to that I was a tea drinker having grown up in a British household. Since I started my way towards not smoking, I have been falling back on that tea habit because it takes more time to make the tea than it does to start the pot of coffee and there is the waiting for … Continue reading

Putting the Fun Back into FUNdraising

It’s fall, school is back in and it’s time to start the fundraising efforts that PTA’s launch every year in an effort to raise funds for the school. When I was a kid, I didn’t pay much attention to the fundraising efforts beyond what prizes could be won. My daughter was thinking in a somewhat similar vein when she brought home her fund raising package on Friday. But I thought about it over the weekend and last night, she and I sat down to discuss the FUNdraising that needed to be done and why it needed to be. I asked … Continue reading

When Fur Flies

One of the first articles I wrote as pets blogger here was about how cats and dogs really can get along. I worked hard to make sure that my cat and dog, even if they’d never be fast friends, tolerated each other. I’m happy to say that while Chihiro and Cole don’t cuddle as much as I wish they would, they definitely seem fond of one another. Unfortunately, that’s made me complacent. It’s easy to forget that pets, like humans, have individual personalities. Just because one dog and one cat get along, that doesn’t mean all will. That’s the hard … Continue reading

Happy “Genealogy Saturday”!

Celebrate Your Name Week finishes today, with “Genealogy Saturday”. This is a day dedicated to genealogy, and an excellent excuse to spend the day working on your genealogy research. After spending the week learning more about your name, and the names of your ancestors, today is an opportunity to put it all together. Celebrate Your Name Week (CYNW) took place this year, starting on Sunday, March 6, and ending today, Saturday, March 12, 2011. It was founded by Jerry Hill, who wanted a week where people celebrate their name, their middle name, and even the names of other people. If … Continue reading

Title Work

Remember my article, “Picking a Title for Your Scrapbook Layout“? If you missed it, check it out for a few ideas on how to get creative with picking your titles for your layouts. I love a good title. It gives the page so much personality, and direction. However, sometimes, when I pick the title, it is hard to figure out exactly how to get that title to fit on a page. For example, many times, I choose titles that just come to me when I’m looking at my pictures. A while back, I did a layout that is still on … Continue reading
