Relief Society: Supporting the Enrichment Committee

Tonight was our quarterly Enrichment meeting. It was a lot of fun, with a great Polar Express theme. We had tickets, boarded a train in the gym, and received candy. There was even a conductor that shepherded us to the various stops along the way. As I was at the activity enjoying the company of the sisters of the ward, I realized how much goes into the preparation of each of these activities. I used to serve on the Enrichment committee, and there really is a lot of work that goes into each activity. There is planning, setting up, cleaning … Continue reading

What Are the Best Perks In a Home Business?

There is a lot of talk in the traditional work world about benefits and perks. While health insurance, vacation, and a retirement plan were once considered the standard and “best” benefit package for many working adults, obviously other perks and concerns have been cropping up over the past several years. Many of us embark on a home business career in order to satisfy some of our needs–our own and our family’s–that aren’t being met with the traditional perks and benefits in the typical workplace. We are even willing to forego some of those (like retirement and paid vacation) in order … Continue reading

21 Things I’ve Learned about My Christian Walk at the Gym

If you go to a gym, it might be fun to seek out a correlation of your faith and your workout. The following are some things I’ve come up with: 1. Doing the right thing might take some sacrifice but is worth it at the end of the day. 2. My Christian walk is like being on a moving treadmill; when I’m not walking forward, I’m back-sliding. 3. I don’t make it very far if I haven’t eaten a good meal or drank enough water. 4. Just when I don’t think I can take another step, I learn that I … Continue reading

How to Build A Play Group

You know, you read a lot of advice about getting your toddler involved in a playgroup. It’s good for the toddler and it’s good for you as a parent, but what few of these ‘advice’ pieces forget to mention is how to get a playgroup set up so your toddler can enjoy it. Well, first and foremost, you’re going to look for parents or family members with children about the same age as your toddler. Medicine Balls – Ideal For Home Workouts

What’s a medicine ball? It’s a smaller, more compact form of balance ball that expands your traditional number of exercise options by increasing resistance, balance, form and focus. Among the exercises you can do with a medicine ball: Squats Twists Sit-ups Crunches Lunges Much, Much More How You Use Them Medicine balls come in many different weight sizes from the 1 lb. to the 10 lb. You can also use it to help tighten and firm up your core … Continue reading

Making New Year’s Resolutions

Yes, I am thinking about making a New Year’s Resolution.  I know, many people say when you do this, you are only setting yourself up for failure.  But sometimes, you just need something to get you kicked off in the right direction. This year, as with all years in the past, I am resolving to lose weight.  Oh, I know I can do it – I lost 30 pounds three years ago.  And then gained it all back within the stressful last two years of returning to the workforce, moving, and changing jobs twice. But this year, I need to … Continue reading

Banning Skinny People

Skinny person discrimination? Didn’t know there could be such a thing until I read a story about a gym in Canada that has actually banned skinny people from entering. In fact, you must be plus-sized in order to workout, the rules set forth by the gym’s owner at “Body Exchange” in Vancouver. Hmmm…I sense the possibility of a trend starting here. Now I have to admit, there may be something to this. I know that for some people, going to a fitness center can be really intimidating. Especially when you walk in and everyone in sight looks fit and toned. … Continue reading

Making Healthy Living Your Lifestyle

Healthy living for some people comes naturally. For others it takes effort, time and some adjustments to their lifestyle. First take a look at your lifestyle. What are you eating? What are you doing in your spare time? How much exercise do you get each week? How many hours of sleep a night do you get? After taking a look at where you are at, pick one or two things to work on. It could even be a small change in what you drink or eat. For example, if you are an excessive coffee or soda drinker, scaling down to … Continue reading
