Snow Shoeing Tips for Beginners

I’ve only gone snow shoeing for fun once, though we did use them one winter where we lived because it was the easiest way to get out to the barn during the multiple blizzard type weather we had over one winter. Still, it’s important to recognize that snow shoeing like other forms of exercise and other sports has a learning curve and you need to build up your endurance. Your Stride It’s important to remember when you are snow shoeing that you have to lengthen your stride. The natural stride for walking is not elongated and if you walk with … Continue reading

Spring Break Fun

Personally, I would never consider taking a spring vacation to a ski resort, but that’s mainly because I am surrounded by snow and cold for roughly eight months of the year. For other families (like my brother’s) an ideal spring break consists of hitting the slopes and snowshoeing along finely groomed trails. If you are looking to take a ski vacation this spring, consider the following options in beautiful Utah. SNOWBIRD RESORT This resort offers full-service slope-side luxury lodgings suitable for serious skiers and snowboarders, as well as beginners. The resort is known for its extreme slopes, but also features … Continue reading

The Search for the Perfect Family-Friendly Ski Resort

This is a continuation of a blog I wrote regarding what to look for in an ideal ski resort for families with young children. In the past I’ve run into problems finding kid-friendly ski resorts that actually deliver the family-oriented enticements promised in their ads. As such I’ve learned it’s better to contact individual properties prior to making a reservation. In my last blog I detailed topics that should be addressed with resort specialists including safety, childcare facilities and pricing. The following are a few other points to consider before you decide on the perfect winter destination for your family. … Continue reading

For about $900 you can participate in a 4-night trip offered by the Northern Minnesota-based White Wilderness Sled Dog Adventures. The trip combines the … Continue reading

Why can’t we all have Disney Weather?

I’m looking out my window here in Sweden at the huge amount of snow that the sky dropped onto us overnight Saturday/Sunday. There’s about 1.5 feet of it. What’s with that? I know that I’m supposed to live in a country that’s known for its winter weather, but come on people, 1.5 feet overnight! This wouldn’t happen in Disney! If you’ve ever been to Disney World, you’ll know that Disney’s got it under control. They’ve even got the weather to behave! How do they do that? Ok, so yes, they do get rain. But it’s Disney rain! It’s not the … Continue reading
