Spring Forward to Action Week 3, Day 3: Bad Habits & Exercise

I’ve talked about making exercise a habit before. A good habit is one that is beneficial to you and helps you to feel good in positive ways. Regular exercise can increase dopamine levels in your brain. Dopamine is the chemical that increases your feelings of well being, joy and elation. It’s this elevated dopamine that can keep you coming back for more, each and every day. Bad Habits Exercise is a great habit and forming this habit is one of the best things you can do for yourself. In the meanwhile, as you work on generating a great habit with … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action Week 3, Day 1: Where Are We?

Has it really been two full weeks since we got started? I’m thinking it’s time for a change. I’ve said from the get go that this year’s Spring Forward to Action program is about building endurance and regaining my personal strength. Since my surgery in February, my energy levels flag pretty quickly and it’s important to me to get back that level of energy once more. So What I Am Doing? I started off with my regular walking program, yoga and some strength training. This week, we’re kicking all of that in the head and we’re ramping this program up … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action 2007: Week 2, Day 5

TGIF! It’s been a very long week and I for one am grateful that it’s Friday. In retrospect, my workout was once again limited by other commitments. I worked as a sub in the library and I spent the day on my feet. I took my pedometer with m and I did a few circuits in the library while I was working. It doesn’t necessarily get the heart rate up, but it did keep me moving. Daily Goal My goal today was to hit 7500 steps whether I got my time on the treadmill or not. I managed to hit … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action 2007: Week 2, Day 3

I may have found a bike! That’s exciting news for me. If it pans out this weekend, I’ll be hitting the bike trails over the next few weeks to add more challenge to my workouts and continuing to build my endurance. Daily Goal Today’s goal was to kick up the treadmill routine from 30 minutes to 2 miles. I accomplished that in about 42 minutes, a little longer than my time spent prior to the surgery, but we’re getting a lot better at it. Following the 2 miles on the treadmill, I did some deep stretches and a series of … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action 2007: Week 2, Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of this week, it’s Tuesday and I officially have the stomach flu – boo-yah! Yes, I know sarcasm doesn’t always translate well when it comes to writing. I recognize that for myself and yes, I don’t feel that great at the moment, but I plan to do my best where my workout is concerned. Daily Goal The key to working out when you feel sick is to monitor your own physical well-being. If you have a temperature or you are really not feeling up to it, then you need to listen to your body. When you … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action 2007: Week 2, Day 1

Good afternoon and happy Monday! It’s the second week of our Spring Forward to Action 2007 plan. This week, you can expect our daily workouts to include the following: Daily Goal Time Spent How I’m Feeling What’s Next Challenges to Overcome Daily Goal Today’s daily goal is to increase the intensity of the … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for April 9- April 13

Is it already the weekend? It really feels like this week escaped without barely a gasp or a whimper. In fact, as I sit here and think about it – I can’t seem to remember what I was doing on Wednesday, at least not with any great clarity. Thursday, I can detail Thursday, because I spent the day with more than 20 first graders. It was a light week here in the fitness blog. Next week, however, we’re going to be busy every day, so get ready! For now, let’s take a quick look at our week in review: The … Continue reading

As I mentioned Wednesday in: What Are We Doing?, we’re focusing on endurance this month and today is our second day of the official Spring Forward to Action plan and since I’m working on endurance, here’s what my workout plan for today looks like: 30 minutes on the treadmill at a comfortable 2.7 pace – this is my warm-up for the day Roller skating for fun – 30 minutes or so 20 minutes of yoga – always a great way to get the body and the mind in sync in the morning Okay, that was the plan for putting my … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action 2006 – The Index

For those of you who weren’t with us last year, we hosted the Spring Forward to Action Challenge beginning when the clocks rolled forward. At the time, it was a pretty ambitious project for myself. Here’s an index of our Spring Forward to Action 2006 Fitness Plan. It’s got legs and if you’re up for the challenge feel free to use this one because it has more … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action 2007: What Are We Doing?

It’s that time, time for us to spring forward to action. Well, actually the spring forward happened earlier this year than it typically does. In fact, I know a lot of people who were thrown by the clocks turning forward on March 11th. It was early enough that it stayed dark here until after 7:30 in the morning and if that doesn’t throw you, I don’t know what will. So here we are, a month later, to kick off our Spring Forward to Action fitness challenge. Last year, our Spring Forward challenge involved a detailed workout plan for every day … Continue reading
