Summer Fun - Say Yes to a Trampoline

A funny thing happened to me today, I went to a website that featured an elephant on a trampoline. After I got done snorting my coffee up my nose and recovering from the following choke and laugh - that guffaw aside - I was doing research on trampolines.

You remember the trampoline, right? The big round thing that you can bounce on like mad and your kids get a big giggle out of and you get even more in the way of laughter when their hair stands straight up from the generated static electricity?

I thought you might.

A trampoline is a fantastic fitness tool. In fact one of the best reasons to buy a trampoline is the health benefit it provides to the entire family. If your family has been looking for a way to address the rising concern of childhood obesity, investing in a trampoline may give you and your family some more active fun.

Studies have shown that children who use a trampoline regularly have fewer problems with obesity. Other benefits of playing on a trampoline include:

  • Better balance
  • Better coordination
  • Increased agility
  • Better flexibility
  • Reduced chances of illness

You don't have to be a child to enjoy the exercise on a trampoline. Bouncing for fifteen minutes is an excellent cardio workout for all ages. But one of the best things about the trampoline that I love is how my daughter laughs as she bounces around in circles.

Your children will love you and you will show your love for your children. Besides - who says just because it's fun it can't be good for you?

I would advise to use caution when someone other than your own child wants to use the trampoline. This needs to be added to the home owners insurance policy and get permission from parent before someone uses it.

A child came over with parent a few years ago and was playing around when we told him not to and he twisted his ankle on it. I have read of kids being injured on trampolines, mine never were, but make visitors aware that this is in the home and get permission beforehand.

I would also contact your Insurance Agent and make sure that your personal liability insurance covers Trampolines. Many policies now exclude them and some companies will cancel insurance for policy holders who own them.

Excellent advice. I always make sure we have parental permission before anyone else bounces on our trampoline -- it's mostly for our daughter and our nephew, but these are some good points -- I'll look into it.

I would agree always check that your insurance covers any potential damage to a trampoline. We do get a lot of families and parents calling with broken parks. We always reccomend getting a tie down kit. Check out some of them on http://www.365trampolines.co.uk
