More Tips for Scrapping Summer Adventures

Picnics, trips to the beach and swimming dates at the pool are all scrap worthy moments that help memorialize the summer of 2010. But, what about major summer adventures, such as a cross-country road trip or your first European holiday. If you shoot as many photos as I do, the bigger adventures warrant an entire scrapbook rather than just a few pages in a year-end book. My neighbor just returned from a couples cruise to the Panama Canal. It was a vacation she will remember forever. To help her keep the memories of her trip alive I am helping her … Continue reading

Prep for Swimming!

This weekend my wife and I took a small break from our normal lives, went to a big box store and bought our son some swimming diapers, and took him to a pool. At one point I was a certified lifeguard (thought that has long since lapsed) but I’ve generally enjoyed the water. My wife also enjoys the water and we both figured this would be a good experience for our son to have before the really hot summer months begin to oppress our neck of the woods. We were unsure about how he would react to the water. He’s … Continue reading

Tips for Preventing Summer ER Visits

Want to stay out of the emergency room this summer? I know I do. Across the United States, emergency care facilities see nearly a twenty percent jump in traffic during the summer months… and now that I think about it, the majority of my ER visits have been during the summer. Knowing is half the battle… preparation and prevention is the other half. (Sorry, G.I. Joe!) Here are some things you can do to make the summer months safer and healthier. Always drink plenty of water. Dehydration is a huge health issue during the summer months! Always wear sunscreen. Yes, … Continue reading

A different type of frugal blogger

What do you get when a spendthrift marries a frugal person? You get a frustrated frugal person. Being married to a man who loves to buy cool stuff, my in goal in life is either to talk him out of purchases, or to beat him to the punch. In other words, I find good deals on things he wants before he pays full price for them. With that said, I am new to the frugal blog, but not to families.com. I have been on the site for a couple of years now as the Homeschooling blogger. I now have the … Continue reading

More Tips for Photographing Your Pet

In my last blog I told you about my friend who gives new meaning to the term “snap happy parent.” Only her baby has four legs and much larger tongue than most kids. Her fur baby is her new puppy and the amount of pictures she has taken of that pooch is utterly amazing. If you are an overzealous puppy parent you might be swimming in shots as well. I understand that my pal wants to capture her pooch in all her glory so that she can share with the rest of the world how special she feels her dog … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review June 2 – June 8

Is it Saturday already? This has been a crazy week and our plans were sidetracked hard because the daughter was sick all week. She suffered from a high fever for five days and now she has a full-fledged head cold. Hopefully next week will see us back out on our bikes and swimming again. In the meanwhile, here is our week in review: Saturday, June 2 Does Becoming a Parent Means Becoming Sedentary? Where is our Fitness Blog Week in Review?

Unfortunately, the craziness this week precluded a lot of fitness articles to cover for the fitness blog. We did take a look at exercise styles, but this week just didn’t lend itself to focusing on fitness as much as I would like. What Did We Do? My daughter and I did two miles per day on our bikes. We also went out for a couple of long walks. They celebrated field day on Monday and water slide day on Wednesday. She came home from school pretty tired, but excited at the same time. We spent one afternoon planning what we’re … Continue reading
