Taking It One Week at a Time

You are probably familiar with the phrase “take it one day at a time.” There are many times in my life when I follow this mantra. However, it doesn’t necessarily work for fitness so I have adopted “take it one week at a time.” When I first decided a couple of years ago to really get serious about fitness, I knew from the start that I was going to battle with it. I get bored easily and I lose motivation. So I had to figure out a way to combat both. The problem for some is that they believe in … Continue reading

Plastic Containers are Taking Over

Do your plastic storage containers multiply like rabbits? Mine do but unfortunately the lids multiply at a different rate than the containers. Round lids multiply slower and unique shaped lids disintegrate in the darkness of my cabinet. I’ve been cleaning my kitchen. I have to tell you my kitchen is my least favorite room to clean because it was very poorly designed. The cabinet pictured above is the worst offender. It is the biggest cabinet in my kitchen with the smallest door. The cabinet is a normal depth but it is three feet wide with a tiny skinny door at … Continue reading

Depression Bounces Back

Interesting research was released this month in the journal Frontiers in Psychology regarding antidepressants and reoccurrence of depression. The full article is called “Blue again: perturbational effects of antidepressants suggest monoaminergic homeostasis in major depression”. Ya, I know – what?? If I had not come across a summary article I would have never even looked into this. The research is worth reading if this is something of importance to you. Otherwise, a summary will do. Here are the basics: people who take anti-depressants have a higher rate of “relapse” than those who never take medications. Relapse in this case would … Continue reading

D23 in 2011

Recently I wrote of an upcoming D23-sponsered event that didn’t seem to include any special tickets or opportunities for its club members. So now I will highlight what’s on D23’s agenda for 2011. For those not in the know, D23 is the official Disney fan club. I have a post on all the details about it here. After taking a year off to celebrate Disney history with the debut of Destination D, this year’s biggest affair is definitely the return of the D23 expo. Despite its name, the expo is actually open to the public, not just club members. Being … Continue reading

Insurers in California to Offer Child-Only Policies Again in 2011

A new law regarding health insurance in California has inspired several insurance companies to reconsider their decision to stop selling individual health insurance policies for children. The insurance companies are concerned about losing customers in 2011 due to this new law. California consumers, especially those who have uninsured children, are going to benefit as a result of the new law. You might recall that in September of 2010 several insurance companies decided to suddenly stop selling individual health insurance policies that were designed to cover children. At the time, a law was taking effect that stated that insurance companies were … Continue reading

What I Think About on 9/11

When I think about September 11, 2001, I don’t think of the terrorists. I don’t think about the conspiracy theories floating around out there that our own government is responsible for the attacks. I don’t think about how much it changed our world and how we live in it basically overnight. No, when I think about the events that happened on September 11, 2001, my mind inevitably returns to the cloudy, partly rainy morning at our house in Jacksonville. The phone rang. It was my dad asking if I was watching the news. “No.” “Turn it on. I’ll wait.” “What … Continue reading
