Twelve Months Post Partum: An Exercising Journey Part VIII

As much as I was loving the burn I received from my more recent workout routine, after about six months of dedication, I was ready for something different.  Even though I still had a good pound and a half to lose (and keep off legitimately) to meet my newest post partum weight loss goals, my body, while stronger than it has ever been before, needed a break from the high intensity, high impact, and high insanity workouts. The jump work from this particular series of exercises were taking a tole on my joints and I knew that my body could … Continue reading

Three Fun Yoga Poses for Kids

I’ve discovered that most children really enjoy yoga. It uses their imagination and it let’s them move around. There are many poses which they find entertaining, but here are a few to get started: 1. Tree Pose. While shoulder stands and Child’s Pose come naturally for kids, Tree Pose takes a few more steps to get started. Start standing. Press the bottom of one foot to the inside of the other leg, or to the thigh. Make sure that the foot is not pressing against the kneecap. As you get your balance, find a focal point (something that is motionless) … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for Jan 6-Jan 12

Good morning, it’s a soggy Saturday here. It started raining yesterday and it’s been quite drenching. But before we dive into that, here is our Fitness Blog week in review. Saturday, January 6 Personal Fitness Challenge – … Continue reading

For example, Balancing Half Moon uses one foot and the hand from the same side of the body. Whether one does the popular Tree Pose, Balanced Half Lotus, or a head stand, there are a few cues which can optimize your experience in any of them. 1. … Continue reading

Yoga and My Daughter

A couple of months ago I added yoga to my weekly workout routine in an effort to ease the strain from my typical high intensity cardio workouts and to help my husband strengthen his core since he refused to do anything but yoga.  Aside from the obvious struggles of exercise i.e. motivation, commitment, follow through, balance, endurance etc., there is the added difficulty of exercising with young children who basically demand mommy’s attention twenty four seven.  My three year old son has gotten really good about playing and getting a snack or drink of water for himself while I exercise … Continue reading

Hey, Big Spender!

They say that your credit card statement says a lot about the way you spend. I suppose if you don’t get a statement that says even more. So, what kind of spender are you? If you whip out your card faster than Quick Draw McGraw every time you see something you want, then you likely fit into the impulse buyer category. If you have the means to support your compulsive buying habit, that’s one thing.
