I Need Routines Or A Robot

I am not a machine but my life would be so much smoother if I operated like one. When I have established routines for keeping the house clean and the laundry done, life is easier. I am easily distracted. If I’m doing something I dislike and I have the option to do something more fun, like read blogs or check Facebook, my chores get tossed to the side while I relax. I’ve always told Hailey to do what has to be done first, then you can enjoy what you want to do. I find more and more that I’m not … Continue reading

Exercising Against All Odds Part I

When I first started on the road to body shape and weight recovery after my daughter’s birth, I knew that there would be challenges along the way. If exercising were not hard enough on its own merit, try adding a couple of kids to the mix and the challenges will increase almost exponentially. There are a few things I have discovered along my road to fitness recovery that has helped to break down the obstacles to post partum exercise. First is the resolve to get fit. Without the commitment to a workout routine, it will be very difficult to find … Continue reading

New School Drop-Off Routine

The first week we parked and I walked with Jessie to the gym to wait for her class to be dismissed to her room. I continued to walk her to the gym and everything was fine until we came back after Labor Day. The long weekend threw her off and she was back in tantrum mode. The teachers in the gym watching over the children had to intervene and take the crying Jessie from me. Again, she was fine when I picked her up. We had another change in the school experience. The school decided that all children need to … Continue reading

The “Start Again” Routine

So in my last blog I talked about tossing aside the idea of setting New Year’s Resolutions for fitness. I touched a bit on how it’s something that we have to want to change. There has to be a desire inside of us to make a positive difference in our health. Here is the next thing I think is important to get into our minds. We have to stop toying with the whole “start again” routine. I have said it myself, “I will start again after this celebration or this holiday.” “I will start again next Monday.” You fill in … Continue reading

Maintaining Fitness Routine On Vacation

Last week my family took a trip to Washington D.C. One of the things that concerned me was having my fitness routine disrupted. I know that vacations can really set you back. One of the important things that you need to remember when taking a vacation is that the same rules apply. If you eat healthy at home you should eat healthy on vacation. If you exercise at home you should exercise on vacation. It may take some creativity to do this but for the most part, I believe it is possible. I would love to say that I followed … Continue reading

How Do I Resume My Fitness Routine After An Injury?

I sprained my knee about 4 weeks ago. I want to get back into my fitness routine, but I am not sure how to go about it. How do I start exercising again without risking reinjury? You will want to make sure that you are at a point to start again safely. You will want to get your doctor’s advice and permission to proceed with your workout routine. Your doctor is a professional and he will know if it is safe to do so. Do not worry that you are starting back at square one. You would have to be … Continue reading

If I Could Start Over Again, Thoughts from a homeschool veteran

I don’t know If I can really call myself a homeschool veteran just just yet because I have not graduated a homeschooler. I have however, gotten my kids to the high school stage and am continuing to homeschool them. 75% of homeschoolers (my best bet)decide to stop homeschooling by this point. This is not a condemnation, just a fact, as each family must do what is best for them. If I had to do it again, as in start from scratch with a new child in Kindergarten, I would certainly do things differently. There are also some things I would … Continue reading

More Evidence Against Routine Induction

A growing number of doctors have been advocating routine inductions in their patients. In some practices, this is standard procedure at 41 weeks. It was for my OB, but fortunately, I went into labor 8 days late, on the day I was to go in to “discuss” induction. In other practices, doctors routinely induce patients for various reasons, including the belief the baby is growing too large, there is low fluid or the mother is diabetic. Natural birth advocates and many midwives have long warned against routine inductions. They cite several problems that can arise from routine induction. Many worry … Continue reading

Barack Obama’s Fitness Routine

How does your fitness regime stack up against President-Elect Barack Obama’s? For starters, unless you are hitting the gym six days a week, then you might not be able to out run the soon-to-be “leader of the Free World” in an impromptu sprint or beat him in a pick-up game of hoops. Obama details his fitness routine in the November issue of Men’s Health magazine. According to the 47-year-old President-Elect, he plans to keep up his daily exercise regime even after he makes the move to Washington, D.C. next month. Currently the former high school basketball standout says he gets … Continue reading
