What Impacts Your Motivation to Exercise?

It’s interesting how the weather seems to affect my motivation to exercise. For nearly two weeks, the state I live in (Wisconsin) has been experiencing unseasonably warmer temperatures. In fact, I believe we broke record high temps on at least two days. It didn’t even feel like spring, it felt more like summer as we hit the 80’s. It was invigorating and got me outside taking a walk nearly every evening. Then this past weekend the temperature started to drop. As of the writing of this blog, we are only at 37 degrees, which is still considered to be pretty … Continue reading

Enjoying My Spinning Class

Today began week four of my six week summer spinning class. Spinning if you have not heard of it before is a form of indoor cycling. Similar to a stationary bike, but designed very specifically for intense, cardio rides where you can actually go from a seated position to a standing position (while still spinning). A great feature on spinning bikes is they have a knob that allows you to add resistance. I really enjoy spinning class for a lot of reasons. The main reason is that it is a great cardio workout. We spin for about 50 minutes and … Continue reading

Did Your Deodorant Stop Working?

The deodorant/antipersperant aisle at the store is full of options. Sporty, teen, extra strength, spray, invisible, transdimensional, does the dishes too, etc. I used Secret because that was what my mom used… and I stuck with it for years. One day, I noticed that it wasn’t working as well as it used to. The powder fresh scent wasn’t lasting as long, and I was starting to feel sweaty. Betrayed! By my favorite deodorant! Oh, the horror! Heartbroken, I switched to another brand — Suave, if you’re curious. I’ve more or less been switching between the two every few years now, … Continue reading

Salt Does a Body Good

We’ve talked about our body’s need for water before, during and after exercise. But during the hot months of summer, regular outdoor exercise can cause fatigue related to a lack of sugar, calories and salt. The loss of salt is not one many of us pay attention to, however. Sports drinks have sodium in them (did you know that?) and studies have found that athletes who drink salty drinks before they compete did better. Salt Does a Body Good Salty drinks help athletes have larger blood volumes. Salty drinks also make you thirstier and you will drink more water and … Continue reading

I love writing the weeks in review, some weeks I like writing them more than others and this month has definitely been falling more in the less than the more category. So without further ado, let’s talk about this Monday, May 14 Have you ever considered that all you need to do to achieve your goals is to Partner Up: Lose Weight with Your Spouse? Or perhaps that you should … Continue reading

Top 10 Reasons To Hate Summer Exercise

It’s summer. No, I know technically that summer isn’t supposed to start officially until June 21st, but it’s hot and it’s muggy and that makes it pretty close to summer. I’ve already had my first sunburn of the season and I’m likely to have another one even if I can remember to do the sunscreen the way I’m supposed to. Any who, just for fun, here are the top ten reasons to hate summer exercise: It’s hot. Yes, it’s hot. When it’s as hot as it can get down here in Texas, doing outdoor activities in the afternoon is an … Continue reading
