What's My Workout Like These Days
by Heather Long | More from this Blogger
Trying to balance recuperation with recovery and getting back into shape is a tightrope that requires a juggle and then some. I have had several people ask me what I am doing these days and how am I doing with the exercises. So I thought I'd spend some time giving you an overview of my current workout and my goals, such as they are.
My Workout
During the bulk of my recuperation period, I was working on fifteen minute a day walks designed to boost my stamina and help me recover my energy. At first, all those walks did was wear me out. We went to an open house at my daughter's school and I came home ready to sleep for two to four hours at a shot. But little bit by little bit, I felt the improvement to my stamina and my endurance.
My fifteen-minute walks grew to twenty minutes and this week, we step it up to thirty to forty-five minutes. I received the all clear from my doctor to start pushing my limits again and I have noticed over the last few days that I can stretch my arms over my head and touch my toes without feeling that tugging pinch in my abdomen.
I began my sit-ups again about a week ago. Fifteen per day along with fifteen crunches and some leg lifts. I push just past my comfort zone with them and I've already noticed a significant amount of decreased stress on my back. So currently, my workout looks like the following:
- Daily Cardio - 30 to 45 minutes of walking either outdoors (weather permitting) or on the treadmill
- Abdominal Crunches & Sit Ups - Two sets of 15 every other day
- Bicep curls and triceps presses - two sets of 10 using five pound weights every other day
- Walking lunges and deep knee bends - two sets of 10 using five pound weights every other day
I have some new workout DVDs to review and I'll substitute those for my typical workout on the days on I use them. I'm also still digging around for a bicycle so I can add cycling with the kiddo regularly and as I get more strength and endurance, I'm getting back on my roller skates, hopefully this weekend. I know my daughter wants to get more roller skating time in so she can improve her own balance.
What are you doing these days?
