What Will You Not Do In Front of Your Mate?

Spouses are best friends. They share all types of relations, hopes, dreams, and ideas with one another. However, once married that does not mean that all sense of privacy is gone. Some couples continue to find it awkward and even difficult to carry out some normally private activities around each other. I can remember many years ago when I was still in school going on a retreat with a group. One of the chaperones, who was a very tidy and always “fixed up” lady, had commented on how her husband had never seen her without make-up. Yes, this may be … Continue reading

Body Type Workouts – the Mesomorph

I told you we’d talk more about how your body type can influence your workout choices and in this case, we’re talking about the Mesomorph. So what exactly is a mesomorph? The hips are usually the same width as your shoulders and your trunk and lower body are well defined. Most people look at Mesomorphs with envy because they seem to be built for workouts, workout clothes and more. Most … Continue reading

One Theory On Diet And Genetics

Many of us point to our genes as a contributing factor behind why we do not like the way that we look in our jeans. Genes do affect the shape of a person’s body, and this may leave you wondering whether you are “stuck” with the type of body that you inherited. The connection between genes, diet, and lifestyle has been studies by many doctors and scientists in the hopes of gaining an understanding of how those things work together to impact our bodies. One doctor who has studied in this area of research is Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo, a … Continue reading

Weird Dreams

Do you have weird dreams when you’re pregnant? I do. I don’t know why, but with both pregnancies, I seemed to sleep deeper and have more vivid dreams than normal. I am a poor sleeper in general. I always have been, so for me to have dreams on a regular basis, and remember them definitely signifies I am having some issues that I need to work out in my sleep. Think about it. When you find out you’re pregnant, there is such an emotional roller coaster. You’re happy one second, and freaking out the next. You don’t know what kind … Continue reading

Weight Loss: How Important Are The Numbers To You?

Going back about 20 years ago I read somewhere that your ideal body weight was measured as starting at 5 feet and 100 pounds for woman. As each inch was added, it was calculated as an additional 5 pounds. For example, a woman that was 5 feet 2 inches tall should weigh 110 pounds and a woman that was 5 feet 5 inches should weigh 125 pounds. This way of measuring did not take in consideration the frame of the body. I followed this rule of thumb and I looked almost skeletal, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was thin and … Continue reading

Why Parents Should Say “NO” to the Real Life “Wonder Pets”

“Wonder Pets Wonder Pets We’re on our way To help a friend and save the day…” Parents with young children feel free to join in: “We’re not too big And we’re not too tough But when we work together We’ve got the right stuff… GOOOOOO Wonder Pets… YAY!!” I dare you to watch even half an episode of the popular animated Nickelodeon show about a determined guinea pig, an independent baby turtle, and an adventurous duckling without humming the theme song for the rest of the week. I should know. My preschooler has been a fan of the show for … Continue reading

Carbohydrates and Weight Loss

Carbohydrates are a tricky subject. When you hear people talking about a low-carbohydrate diet, they are undoubtedly speaking of starchy carbohydrates. Even on the lowest carbohydrate diet, the Atkins Diet, you are still required to eat plenty of fibrous carbohydrates every day. That’s right. It isn’t all bacon and mayonnaise. With that being said, I’ll discuss the two types of carbohydrates, starchy and fibrous. Starchy carbohydrates are from grains such as oats, wheat and corn. Root vegetables like carrots and potatoes are also starchy carbohydrates. Oatmeal, flour and the bread made from it, corn and corn tortillas, as well as … Continue reading

Are You a Spoon?

Wondering what a spoon is outside of an eating utensil or a very a snuggly position with your spouse? Well, wonder no longer. A spoon is a body shape that means you carry excess weight on your hips, thighs and behind the knees. My legs are somewhat spoon like, even when I am at my peak weight; my legs are larger than my upper body would indicate. Spoon Doesn’t Equal Overweight Before you get the wrong idea, just because your lower body is larger than your upper body, don’t believe that this is an indicator of being overweight. I felt … Continue reading
