Why a Jogging Stroller?

Do you have a jogging stroller? Too often, people see jogging strollers and assume that the owner is someone who is serious about their fitness. The truth is, the jogging stroller is extremely versatile. It's also ideal for parents who want to get into shape. The first jogging stroller showed up on the market in the early 1980s and they have improved on that original design.

Jogging strollers typically have 41 to 51 centimeter wheels and those wheels let you take the stroller over a variety of terrains. When a parent enjoys getting out to power walk or jog (or as some parents do in this neighborhood, one parent runs while the other cycles and they either have a jogging stroller or a trolley to pull behind their bike), then a jogging stroller is a worthy investment.

Shock Systems

The best reason to get a jogging stroller over a normal stroller is the shocks. A standard jogging stroller features a five-point harness system. The harness keeps your child secure whether they are four months or four years old. The suspension and shocks on a jogging stroller also prevent a rough ride for your child whether you are walking or jogging on sidewalk or dirt track.

Remember, summer time is when the heat really does a job on sidewalks - after the cold of winter and the wet of spring, the heat can cause cracks in the concrete, buckles can form and whether your city regularly maintains their sidewalks or not, they are rarely smooth. So I know one couple on my street that uses a jogging stroller despite the fact that they don't jog - the stroller will grow with the child and kids as old as five years old can ride in them. (They are great for travel too!)

Jogging strollers make fantastic baby shower gifts, too. They help moms (and dads) resume their exercise program after baby and we've discussed post natal fitness in this blog before . So whether you run, you walk or your just out for a stroll - those are all great reasons for investing in a jogging stroller.

So tell me, do you have a jogging stroller?

When we had our first child, my husband, who is a jogging enthusiast, tried taking her jogging in a regular stroller. We ruined three of them. Then we got a jogging stroller, and it really makes all the difference. The shock absorption is great, too. And there's another thing -- the handle is higher, so even if you're just walking and not jogging, you don't have to hunch all over just to push the thing.
