Benefits of a Workout Buddy

Although I believe that something is better than nothing when it comes to exercise. The fact remains that your level of fitness will improve the longer you work out. So the question becomes, how do you make that happen? It wasn’t that long ago when a friend of mine told me she had worked out at the gym for an hour.  I was really impressed.  Then she mentioned it was with another friend and they had gotten to talking so much, they lost track of time. I can’t even imagine losing track of time while exercising.  But I can definitely … Continue reading

Outdoor vs. Indoor Workouts

I sometimes wonder whether I prefer indoor or outdoor workouts. Where I live, weather isn’t usually a major factor. I guess it depends on what my schedule is like, how motivated I am, and if I am working out with someone. Outdoor Workouts I enjoy outdoor workouts because I love fresh air. Hiking and biking are great ways to get moving and see the world around. Hiking especially is a passion of mine because I love nature, especially tress and animals. Biking I also enjoy because you can go far in a short time. Walking can be a convenient workout … Continue reading

Community College Workout Classes

If you’ve read some of my blogs, you will notice that I am a big fan of taking workout classes at community colleges. While my spinning (indoor cycling) class comes to an end tomorrow, I was thinking about how I really enjoy taking classes at my community college. Price If an organized class is your thing, then your best options when on a budget are community and college classes. My local college was $50 for one class spring quarter. With quarter being twelve weeks and the class was twice a week, making each class just a few dollars. What is … Continue reading

Working Out With Your Spouse

My husband is not a big fan of exercise like I am. He plays at a church weekly basketball night which is the extent of his designated cardio activity. He would much rather be doing something for the house or yard. It is fine most the time because when he is working on the house or yard, he actually is getting exercise without realizing it. Although I don’t mind doing most my workouts solo or with one of my workout buddies, there are some sports and activities I would prefer to do with him and just spend time together. I … Continue reading

In a Workout Slump?

I know from experience that sometimes it is hard to stay motivated to exercise. I have gotten in slumps before that have lasted longer than I would like to admit! I have come up with some ideas to try to help you stay motivated and get moving. These ideas have helped me get out of a slump, and hopefully they can help you too! Workout Shoes Keep your workout shoes in sight! This may seem odd but there is some truth in the saying- out of sight, out of mind. I have noticed that when my workout shoes are tossed … Continue reading

Working Out With A Buddy

A great way to workout is with a buddy. There are several reasons why I have found this to be a fun and rewarding way to workout. Here are some steps to get you started. The first step is to find a workout buddy or two. This could be a spouse, friend, or coworker. Basically anyone who you don’t mind spending time with and that you can depend on. Your next step is to find out what workouts you are both interested in doing. You may want to try a few different activities till you know what works best for … Continue reading

Getting Out of Debt: Living Like No One Else

One of the things that we heard over and over again taking the Dave Ramsey Financial Freedom course was that we needed to “Live like no one else so we could live like no one else.” In fact, I think this was the slogan for the course. What this means is that we have to be prepared to not only live frugally, but to make sacrifices in many areas and manage our money well, things that most of us, as Americans don’t tend to do. By sacrificing now, we could then live without debt later and be in a position … Continue reading

Working Out When You Are Overweight

Question: It is so difficult for me to work out, as I am very overweight. I get short of breath easily and it is so uncomfortable for me just to move let alone bend over to touch my toes. How can I work out without it being so uncomfortable? Answer: If you are overweight and trying to exercise it will most likely be uncomfortable…..at first. Remember, you are carrying the excess load of that additional weight. Start out slow, but not too slow. You are going to have to push yourself a little bit.okay…you will have to push yourself a … Continue reading

Why am I Writing this Weight Loss Blog?

I have never found an online forum on weight loss where the moderator/writer was someone who had been obese and made it to “the other side”. Who better to talk with people who want to lose weight than someone who has felt their pain and been through everything that they are going through? I am passionate about this topic because I live it! At my heaviest, I weighed 265. I’m not proud of that, but I don’t mind saying it because I know that there are other people out there who have gone over that 200-pound mark and they may … Continue reading

On Having a Weight Loss Buddy

I haven’t mentioned this before, but I have a weight loss buddy. Although I have other weight loss buddies who are online and who I check in with from time to time to see how they’re doing, this particular weight loss buddy actually lives with me! That’s right, my darling hubby is being supportive and joining in the Weight Watchers eating plan right alongside me. First of all on this I should clarify that he’s not just doing this purely out of selfless motivation – I know he loves me and would do anything he could to support me anyway … Continue reading
