Your Pedometer, Don't Leave Home Without It

My pedometer broke. I don't mean it needs a new battery, I mean it broke. It fell off my belt the other day and I drove over it with my car. I couldn't believe it when I saw all the crunchy little pieces all over the garage floor. It's been just four days since it broke and I feel lost without it.

Pedometer Practice

My pedometer helped to keep me on target with my work out whether I was actually on the treadmill or not. There's lots of walking and steps I take every day without once going into gym mode. There's the walking to school, the walking home, the walking around the classroom, the playground, the grocery store or just walking outside with the kiddo. I walk all the time and my pedometer features my little reward for the end of the day with the details on how many steps I've taken.

I'm Lost Without It

Since it broke, I've felt like I've let myself down at the end of every day because I have no idea how many steps I took. I may still be breaking 10,000, I may not. How can I know? Sure, I know I'm doing all the same things that I normally do, but that doesn't mean I don't want that mental reward of seeing the numbers on my pedometer.

That's the beauty of a pedometer, it's a tracking and motivational device all in one. When I first got it, I was over the moon when I crossed the 5,000 steps a day mark. I started planning extra steps into everything because I was competing with myself, I wanted to get more steps and reach further and do more. That pedometer encouraged me to go that extra mile.

Now while I have all the motivation in the world to keep up my exercise program, I find that I'm lost without my pedometer. So guess what's going at the top of my Christmas wish list?

Yep. You got it.
