The Fitness Blog Week in Review for May 27 – June 1

We’ve been a bit crazed around here in the fitness blog, but that’s to be expected with the summer time and outdoor activities ramping up. More of us are leaving the gym and heading outside to ride bikes, go swimming, play ball and more. So let’s take a quick run down our week in review. Sunday, May 27 National Senior Fitness & Health Day happens in May and is celebrated every year. Monday, May 28 In Women’s Fitness: Target Your Hips we look at how we can target specific areas of the body to get the weight off. Have You … Continue reading

Let’s Review Hydration Rules

Last summer I wrote an article on hydration and it’s time to review those rules especially after the radio show tragedy that occurred when a mom died from drinking so much water during a radio contest to win a Nintendo Wii for her children. Hydration is really important for your health and your fitness goals. So as the days are getting ready to heat up and we’re going to want to do our best to promote good health through the hotter months of the year, let’s talk about hydration and what we need to do to maintain our summertime fitness. … Continue reading

Fad Diets: The Three Day Diet

Please understand that although I don’t recommend these fad diets, I do know that they exist. I’d like to address a few of them and explain exactly why they can be dangerous (and why they seem to work). The first I’d like to address is one that I’m all too familiar with, The Three Day Diet. When I was a teen, I used this fad diet extensively. In fact, it is one of the many reasons why my metabolism got so out of whack and that I eventually managed to weigh over 260 pounds. The Three Day Diet instructions are … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Today’s Workout

Today is going to be all about circuit training. My stamina is not up for any long term 30 minute workouts that keep me doing the same thing over and over and over again. Instead, circuit training keeps you shaking it up and changing up what you’re doing. It’s also a great way to tone and burn calories at the same time. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the workout. It’s important to note that you should drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout. Hydration is a key to fitness success because it … Continue reading

Keep Your Pucker Perfect

Does your skin care routine include your lips? It should! Try these tricks for keeping your lips plump and healthy. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Try a glycerin-based lip balm to help your lips retain moisture. Use a lip balm with vitamin E or spread vitamin E oil onto your lips. The lips don’t secrete sebum like the rest of your skin, so they’ll need the extra dose. Don’t forget the sunscreen. Your lips can get burned just like the rest of you! Use a lip balm with SPF underneath your favorite lipstick, or look for … Continue reading

So You Think You Can Dance – I’m Hooked

It took the show’s third season to do it, but I’m officially hooked on So You Think You Can Dance. I sat glued to the screen on Wednesday evening, watching the dancers and their dances and feeling really impressed. For those of you who haven’t watched the show before, the premise is simple, but elegant. Dancers from around the country compete to be in the top 20 dancers. If they make it to the top 20, there are 10 girls and 10 guys. The dancers are partnered up and then they draw a dance style from a hat. They then … Continue reading

Are Microwaves Bad For You?

I remember when microwaves were being launched into every home. They were the hottest new devices on the market. My parents debated getting one, but they were so expensive. A year later, when the prices came down some, they bought one. It sat in our kitchen and we hardly ever used it. They said you could heat water in it (but we liked our water boiled in a kettle). Still, we owned it and my parents bought some microwavable food because we could. But we never really used the microwave that much and over the years, as I’ve grown up, … Continue reading
